We had a king bed room with a sofa/bed. They had the sofa arranged against a diagonal wall such that when made into a bed the edge of the bed was four inches from the wall dividing the king bed area and the sofa area. I understand the hotel trying to go for a "suite" feel, but this was rather inconvenient to try to walk past the rest of the evening and next morning before we turned the bed back into a sofa. Still, the breakfast in the morning was good and our kids loved the pool (as they always do). If we're in Alamogordo again we'll probably try out a different hotel, just to see what else is out there.
Stayed again on March 31 and had another excellent experience. John at the front desk does a great job, very professional and helpful. Comfortable bed and a wonderful breakfast. Will surely stay on my next trip though town.
When we arrived at this location, the front desk clerk wasn't at the desk. We waited for her to come out of back room. Then she pronounced my first name wrong. It's not that hard, it ends with an e not an a. When we got to the room, it was feet from the elevator. So it was noisy all night because we could hear every time the elevator door bell rang open or closed. My kids went to put their food in the refrigerator and there was already food boxes in there. Three boxes and three koolaid fruit juices. It was obvious the room wasn't cleaned properly if there were old food boxes in the minifridge. Gross. I told the front desk and they didn't care. Then my daughter opened the bedside table drawer to look for a pen. There were drawings on the notepads. Another obvious reason the room wasn't cleaned properly. What other corners do the maids cut? No clean sheets? No clean toilet? Gross. This property is not worth the price. I told all my complaints to the front desk when I left and all they said was sorry. I'm extremely dissatisfied. I will never stay at this overpriced, dirty location again.
So, I stayed 2 nights in March and only stayed the second night because there was nowhere else for me to go. My daughter was participating in The Bataan @ WSMR. At first glance I thought I scored but once I entered the hotel I was sadly mistaken. I will say the staff was friendly and helpful. The overall feel was this is a pretty “well traveled” hotel. Furniture in common areas was dirty, carpets were dirty. My room had a “Funk” smell that I can not describe. Everything in my room was covered in dust....see photos. So, obvious this property is owned and operated by someone other than Marriott Corp. there were fake flowers everywhere that were filthy, nasty, dusty. Just gross. This hotel needs a DEEP CLEANING STAT! I didn’t eat at breakfast because it was gross. Avoid this hotel if you are allergic to dust.... Awful
Nice hotel with beautiful lobby, complimentary breakfast and friendly staff. Close to White Sands Fish tank is nice, but sitting by it for some time led me to discovery that one fish at the top was close to death, not necessary a pleasant view. This, however is understandable, just a regular negative side of having fish tank. Room was clean, but shower control was flimsy on one hand, but required some effort to make sure water is not dripping from other shower head(s). We also found few ants in the bathroom. Sofa matress was totally uncomfortable, yet the sofa itself was way too short for teenager to use it without unfolding it.
We stayed here one night on our way to AZ. John at check in was very pleasant and professional. This is an older property that has been updated. We were in room #306 which was right off the elevator and next to the ice machine so it was a bit noisy. The room and bathroom had been updated and the shower stall had two shower heads (one in the ceiling). This hotel had a very nice extra large breakfast area with fresh fruit and pancakes as well as eggs and Canadian bacon. I went to use the treadmill and Gene the maintenance man came in and was kind enough to show me how to use the TV.
Of all the Marriott hotels I've stayed in, the Fairfield Inn brand seems to be the most inconsistent in its level of quality. This location had a beautiful lobby and a quite large breakfast area but the tables were arranged in a bunch in the middle of the room with quite a bit of space available near the walls. I had to take a circuitous route to my table because of the crowding. Only other con was the confusing shower control for water temperature and the great idea of having 2 different shower heads (one overhead and one conventional) was spoiled by the overhead dripping on you when you chose the conventional. Nit picking, know. Otherwise, it was quite good for a 1 night stay.
This place was very good. We stayed last summer during a southwest road-trip and it was clean, quiet and comfortable. If you're looking for a base camp for White Sands National Park then look no further because this is it.
Moving away from Alamogordo we stayed at the Fairfield for 4 days. The hotel was nice, staff friendly, clean rooms, breakfast was okay. The pool and hot tub were down waiting for state certification or something and that was a little disappointing, but things happen. Recommend this hotel.
Great location for visiting White Sands or Holloman. Every staff member was friendly and welcoming. John D at the front desk is clearly someone that understands and embraces hospitality. The pool/hot tub are nice, the hot tub has a small fountain. The outdoor patio is nice, and has a large fountain. If I'm in the area again, I wil stay here without hesitation.
