As a occasional visitor to Royal Mirabeau over the last few years due to the proximity to the business park, I knew what to expect. However, after an overnight flight from Johannesburg to be awoken by bites from bed bugs at 00:00 is not pleasant. Room changed and cream provided by night receptionist does not make up for this awful experience.
Stayed here for 7 nights during a conference, where to start, rooms are ok but a bit outdated and not very clean, dust on the floor and not a very clean bathroom. However the worst thing is the staff and organization of the hotel and the horrendous food quality and prices. One evening we had dinner with our group and they just did not have enough plates of food and they just served me a salad because our group was bigger. Next they served us with white wine which turned out to be water and than just served red wine instead. Prices for the drinks are overpriced and the size of the glass depends on what type of glass is clean. At the end an argument about the bill and nobody was able to make a decision. Even the taxi company they work with is as poor as the hotel.
We used this hotel as accommodation for the Euro semi Final on 7 July. Due to the absolute lack of taxis before the game we couldn't check in until after the match. When we arrived, the man behind the reception desk was not the happiest chap. He gave us our room keys and that was that. We asked if we could get a drink and he pointed to a cabinet which had one tin of Heineken. When we said we would like one each he said the hotel only had one tin. We bought the tin, some coke and a bottle of wine. We asked for something to eat and he offered us crisps and M and Ms. We got to the room and found the wine required a corkscrew. At this point, tired and hungry we gave up and went to bed. In the morning we tried to return the wine but as we had removed the cover over the cork, the staff said it could not be returned and we should have asked for a corkscrew the night before. At this point my son noticed a crate of Heineken behind the counter!! Apart from that, the pool is good and breakfast was quality. Quite why the staff were so unhelpful (especially after their national team had reached the final) is really very odd. Civility and good service costs nothing.
What a pleasant surprise, clean air conditioned room, silent and had view over golf and pool, bed comfortable, bathroom had bath and shower and all worked well, towels clean, toilet separate with little toilet roll holder which was badly placed but really not an issue, TV, wifi, fridge, absolutely way above my expectations. Pool lovely and towels available. Restaurant superb - once again totally amazed by this. Reception staff very friendly.
3 to 3.5 Star 4 / 10 In in industrial neighbourhood , it has 1980's décor in Tan and teal. Good points :plenty of parking , Room has A/C , queen sized bed was comfortable enough. Bad points Water pressure variable , limited restaurant menue and no room service , no mini bar , no clock. Breakfast buffett is quite poor (hard bacon , runny eggs , ran out of juice). No tea / coffee facilities in room. No lounge or Armchair only desk. If you open the windows you get mosquitos. Shower has a low ceiling if you lift your arms you'll hit the roof.
Inexpensive business hotel in an industrial park. About seven kilometers outside of Aix. Rooms clean, people are nice. Good view from balconies. Had a pool but it's too cold in January to use it. Breakfast included in room charge. About €50 from airport by taxi.
It's nothing more then a old fashioned hotel, the picture does not cover the actual situation. It smells dirty, the rooms are very warm and ventilation does not work properly. Breakfast is nothing special, cheap. The bar was almost closed, we had to ask for a drink, personal was difficult to find. At 10.30 pm something drinking in this hotel...we could only buy a beer at the reception, the bar was closed.
There was almost no internet at my room. The room was clean, but not fancy. The bathroom is good and clean. But there was for example a broken part on my shower that I had to ask them to replace the next day. The vegetables for breakfast was not washed properly and one could see the soil between the vegetable leaves. Overall that can be considered as a hostel more than a hotel and it was not worth the price I paid.
The hotel has just too many short comings to even make it an average stay. I would give it the worst rating but then again this wouldn't be fair to the staff of the hotel. An uncompleted list of complaints: - The hotel feels not clean in general. It feels generally worn down, the wall comes off in certain places - The shower at the pool is not working. - The shower in the room has very low pressure, lights were flickering in the room - Matrasses are hard and uncomftable. Minibar is empty. Hotel promises fresh mineral water but fails to deliver after the first night. - The restaurant is offers deepfrozen food and sells it as "fresh" (see picture) - There were fruits with fungus at breakfast. - While being genuinely friendly, the staff doesn't go the extra mile. For example I ask for an envelope of my bill, but the bill is not put the envelope I have to do it myself. - I booked online with breakfast, had to prove that breakfast was included. Annoying. I will not stay there again. What was good: The room / bathroom was very clean.
I just stayed in the hotel for 3 nights and I think for a tree star hotel it would be really good - for four stars I am not that sure (but I am used to german 4 star categories....). The check-in and check-out worked without any problems, the room was not ready when I arrived at noon but the normal check in time is 4pm so no complaints. The luggage could be stored in a luggage room - but as it hasn't been locked I am not sure how save it is for valuables. The hotel room itself was ok. The split between a toilette and a bathroom with two doors was a little bit weird. The bed, if you like it not too soft, was pretty comfortable. I haven't used the TV so not sure if it worked. The minibar was filled with one bottle of water and it hasn't been refilled during my stay. The hairdryer worked but for long hair I guess it takes ages until dried. The really great things about the hotel where the nice terace with the pool (pretty cold) and the food. We had the food included for lunch & dinner (3-courses menues) and they were really good, as long as you bring some time with you... The location is really quite, just the golf course around and it takes app. 30 Min to go to the airport (15 Minutes to the TGV station) or 30 Minutes to go to Aix, so it depends a little bit on your plans if the hotel is a good choice. Overall for the price I paid (the hotel was on sale) it was really acceptable but the "original" price seemed to be too high for what they offered.
