Stayed a week near the end of October. Perfect location to explore the town just by walking. Room was basic but great for the price. Hot water worked great but the mini fridge in the room only stayed cool and not cold and yes, I did try to change the thermostat. Only negative which was not the fault of the hotel, because they were celebrating the Day of the dead with free concerts at the plaza, it was hard to sleep. The music went on until four or five in the morning. It was loud but also very cool at the same time.
A few days ago I went to Aguascalientes to a meeting; the hotel has a marvelous ubicación, is clean and comfortable, but the restaurant was horrible! The morning after my arrival I came down to the restaurant and ordered orange juice (had a rotten orange!), coffee (my 3-day coffeemaker leftovers tastes much better than that!), so it is quite impossible having breakfast in this restaurant.
We stayed for a week in March. The weather was nice and good for walking around as this hotel is located very centrally close to Main Cathedral, the Central Plaza and lots of shopping. The only downside was the hotel food was not to our liking although we were spared by the fact that adjoining the hotel is a Sanborn's restaurant which has a varied menu, is open long hours and has good food. There are several fast food places very close as well as a number of cafes. The hotel room was very comfortable, we were overlooking the street and were surprised it was quiet. It gave us the opportunity to see many parades of hot cars, horses and riders etc. The staff were nice and very accommodating. If we ever return to Aguascalientes we will stay here.
We stayed in this hotel for 7 nights on a recent trip to experience the Ferias de Aguascalientes. The location was perfect as it was close enough to walk to everything (all fair activites, shopping, eating) yet far enough away from all the noise that we could sleep at night. Right next door was the Sanborns restaurant and store. The hotel was elegant and nice but could use a makeover to bring up to date as the carpet is old and gross. They could also use ceiling fans in the rooms for hot days. On those days when we had been walking all day and wanted a cold shower, the water came out warm, even when only cold was turned on. It is Aguascalientes (means hot water) so.....the room was good size. The view was alright. Elevators worked well and the lobby was nice. There was a coffee maker in the room but it took a couple of days before they would leave any coffee for us to use it. there was a mini fridge so we could buy drinks and keep in room. could never find the ice maker on the floor . i assume there was one somewhere as there was an ice bucket in the room. We arrived early so our room was not ready. We hung out at the bar meanwhile and could only get basic, simple drinks like beer and rum/coke as the bar lady did not know how to make anything else. The staff overall was very nice. Loved the decor (bullfight/spanish theme) and some of the celebrities that showed up to do concerts during the fair stayed at this hotel which was exciting. So best thing was location and free WIFi, Least liked thing was carpet/no ceiling fan. We didn't stay in room much since most of our time was spent exploring all the fair activities and the city. I would probably stay here again.
I do not understand why this hotel got so many "average" reviews: I have been in several hotels in Mexico and, although the building is quite old, I actually really liked this hotel! The people at the hotel were very friendly and helpful, there is always music at reception which I thought was quite nice. The only minor point about the room is, as many also commented, that it is quite noisy. I could hear a "fan" noise that was always there and made it difficult for me to fall asleep straight away, but, apart from that, I liked my room: I really appreciated having hot water in the shower straight away, which I learned is not something to be taken for granted in Mexico. The Wi-Fi worked really well, and the location is excellent: you can walk around the main attractions of the city, which is absolutely lovely and worth-visiting. I do not think the breakfast was bed: it was just very "Mexican" :-) It looked like this was the only option at first, but then the lady in the hotel restaurant was really nice and explained that I could also choose to have a continental breakfast. She brought it to me straight away and I enjoyed it, so I would recommend asking for a continental breakfast if you would like to have more options.
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. The location is excellent, right in historical downtown, near the catedral. The room was ok, bathroom could have a renovation, most of the staff are nice (but not all of them, specially the lady in the restaurant). Breakfast is not included, if you have time, there are some coffee places near the hotel.
The best of this hotel is its location, very in the heart of the old and historic Aguascalientes city. Our room was with not very good cleaning, the carpet was old, smelly and out of the floor. The automatic keys got des-magnetized each day so we had to go to the front desk (3 floors down) and do it again. The breakfast is poor as well. WIFI worked OK. the hotel has a direct connection with Sanborns which has in the first floor a kind of small departmental store and in the 2nd floor a restaurant that is much better than the one in the hotel.
I stayed there for business for 3 nights. I had a room on the 3rd floor. There was constant noise from the cooling system. The breakfast was terrible. I repeatedly asked for toast but it was never delivered.😖 Their wifi is decent though.
I stayed in this hotel with my wife and my mother. We enjoyed our stay: matresses were comfy, pillows a little hard, but we had a nice rest. TV was OK, it has a safe in each room, the restrooms were clean with instant hot water for a relaxing shower. The location is unique: its in a very centric spot with restaurants and bar among the street. The only minus thing was the room, althoug they are nice and comfortable, the rooms on the top (7th floor) have the problem of noise all night long. I think this noise came from an electric generator, since the noise stopped on sunset.
This is a great choice for the easy-going traveler. While Hotel Francia had its hey day before big name corporate hotels came into town, it continues to preserve it's historical importance in the city. Known for previously hosting bullfighters during the San Marcos fair, the decor reflects that past and can be interpreted as kitschy or campy. I got a kick out of the Spanish oil paintings depicting Spanish señoritas longing for their matador suitors! On a serious note, however, the friendliness and hospitality of the staff was better than any 5-star hotel! They even arranged a taxi ride to San Miguel de Allende with very little notice. So, if you love great customer service, centrally located, modest accommodations and above all, a campy old-world feel, this is the place for you! P.S. This place has a secret door in to Sanborns, a high-end sort of a convenience store and restaurant!
