Superb hotel, clean spacious bedrooms with stunning views of Spinalonga. We only ate breakfast which was excellent with a wide range of choices. Staff were very welcoming and polite every morning. For evening meals we walked into Plaka - 5 mins every evening. Here, there was an abundance of restaurants who all served fantastic food at reasonable prices. The shops selling Crertian goods were so quaint and everything was beautifully presented. Not a 'tacky' shop in sight.
We are currently staying at blue palace for 2 weeks in superior bungalow for 3 people. The hotel is gorgeous, overlooking Spinalonga and a couple of minutes walk to Plaka or few minutes drive to Elounda. The hotel is stunning and has lots of choice regarding restaurants, bars, pools etc. We love spending the day on the beach. There are always plenty of sun beds. The beach bar for lunch is lovely and very reasonable in price. The gym is great for morning workout and lots of water-sports to choose from. The rooms are gorgeous all with amazing view and the additional bed in our room so comfortable for our daughter. The staff are so friendly. Will definitely be coming back.
The location of this hotel is pretty. There is a great view of Spinalonga. The hotel is located within a 10 mile walk of Plaka, where you can go for dinner and is a short drive from Elounda and it's shops and tavernas. The food at the hotel is not very good. The breakfast buffet is large but it's weird-nothing is note-worthy or spectacular. We went to the traditional Crete dinner and what a waste of money. The entertainment was a couple musicians and about 5 dancers that played and danced the same songs all night. The traditional roasted lamb was all fat and gristle. Again, a ton of food but none of it good. Everything is expensive. It was 20 euros to rent a rubber float for the pool (not that we paid that). My daughter's were very excited to take the yoga classes but they were expensive and not offered the week we were there as advertised. This is more a destination property for people who come for their entire holiday than a jumping off point to tour the rest of Crete. The hotel is pretty far away from a main road. The funicular was broken one night which other people have remarked on as well. I wouldn't stay here again. It was too corporate for me.
My husband and I just returned from a two week stay at the Blue Palace. We wish we could have stayed even longer! What a spectacular property! Built in the side of a mountain with all rooms facing the Aegean Sea, many rooms even have private pools facing the view of the sea and Spinalonga Island. The property has excellent facilities which include two large pools, water sports, and six restaurants, but the best attribute is the hotel staff and general manager. The entire staff, including the bellmen who greet you upon arrival, reception who check guests in, the maids, the concierges, the restaurant servers, all go out of their way to ensure that everyone is having a wonderful time. Even the general manager, whom we frequently saw, would always greet us, asking about our stay and if he could do anything to make our stay better. We were pampered and treated so well that we plan to return next year and bring our whole family!
Its an amazing hotel with an amazing view of the historical spinalonga. The variety of the stores, the swimming pools and the restaurants is huge. The food was amazing and the live music made the italian restaurant Izola feel like a cozy place. Its an excellent way to enjoy your vacation with a family, friends even alone!
Expensive, Great views, well kept property, with a staff that aims to please. The only shortcoming in our visit was with the food service. A simple order placed the night before for a pot of coffee for two was delivered incorrectly two out of three mornings. The buffet breakfast is good, but waitstaff is inadequate. No one will offer or pour you a glass of water, and you won’t easily find someone to refill your coffee
When it comes to luxury hotels on beaches, we are spoiled. We heard about this hotel from a reliable friend who was in Crete last year and visited this facility. We stayed a week and the place grew on us day after day. It is a very large hotel, probably not totally full when we went. It has stunning view of the bay from every room and the water quality at the beach is excellent. As it sits high up on a hill facing the bay, transportation to the beach is provided by a small 16-person funicular that goes from the reception floor down to two room levels and eventually to the beach. It can be busy at times but this was the only issue we had at the hotel. One can also walk up and down, but the up part can be testing Our room with a private (small) pool was comfortable, modern and clean, with all the right facilities. The hotel is about 15 years old but it holds its own well. There are 4 restaurants, all very good with a great diversity of cuisine, with an emphasis on local produce and recipes. We tried them and loved them all. The spa is excellent, providing plenty of treatments and a good gym, sauna, etc… The number one reason we loved the place was the overall service quality and attitude of every member of the staff we interacted with, from the maids to the concierge, from the restaurant folks to the beach attendants… everyone was clearly proud to be there and willing to go the extra mile to provide excellent service. The large size of the hotel did not in any way interfere with the sense of being treated like valued guests and not numbers. This place is ideal for couples or families with teens. If you are looking for a relaxing time on a lovely beach in Crete, this is it. This is not a sand beach but they set it up so that you can walk on wood platforms. I hesitated on the number of stars and could easily have given it five, but the size and the relatively inconvenient funicular made me stop short...
I have higher expectations for this price point and was sorely disappointed. The friendliness of the hotel staff made this vacation tolerable. My room was a pool room. The spiders on my patio made it challenging to enjoy sunning on my patio by my pool. The bed was too hard, but the bedding was of good quality. Smokers....well, also ruined my time on my patio as I do not smoke and do not care to be around it. The walls are paper thin and I finally broke down and reported my noisy neighbors. Several nights without sleep will wear on ones tolerance levels. The hotel is beautiful but the grounds should be treated for insects. I'm covered with bug bites. I've never been more ready to go home and would not recommend nor would I return to this hotel. It was most certainly a waste of my money and time.
The Blue Palace was a great end to our vacation on Crete. The hotel has the most spectacular setting, overlooking Spinalonga. We had a room with a private infinity pool facing the island and the sunrises were spectacular! Everyone you meet in the resort is extremely friendly and always asking if they can do anything to help. Particular mention must be made of Haris from Blue Door who was great! The beach is large and the water is so clean. Iy was quiet on the first 2 days but on the third day almost all beds had been taken with the exception of those in the Haven which are reserved for guests in villas. Downsides would be the very small shower room - bathrooms most definitely need to be upgraded and modernised and the bathroom facilities at the beach/blue door were rarely clean. Also, there is not a huge amount of privacy between the rooms with pools. Minor points detracting from a beautiful resort and a great destination.
Wow - this resort is beautiful all around. Fantastic views, great accommodations, wonderful pools and amenities. We absolutely loved Isola for lunch. The BEST mozzarella tomato salad that I had it every day! Oh, and the olive oil - YUM!!!! But the best part of this property is the staff. Everyone was beyond friendly giving us service like none other. Every single person we encountered had a smile on their face all the time (or course the beauty of the island could be why!) Oh, and I got a massage which was quite nice. Actually, it was excellent. I am not usually overly impressed with resort massages but I got a deep tissue massage that hit all of the notes. Would highly recommend a visit to the Blue Palace!
