Buxton Manor

Buxton Manor was a terrific surprise. We expected a typical B&B and found we had a huge 5 room apartment decorated in a marvelous array of beautiful antique furnishings. A large foyer opened onto an enormous living room with high ceilings and fine cornice moldings but a good flat screen TV as well. There were two big beautifully furnished bedrooms with very comfortable beds plus a fully stocked kitchen. We wished we had more than two nights to enjoy this garden setting and lovely manor house. There was a fine, pleasant walk to many good nearby restaurants as well. You are met by a friendly caretaker and then left on your own but any help needed is a quick easy phone call away. Our travel agent was right when he said we'd LOVE Buxton Manor!

We were going up to the wine region and decided to do something different and stay at a B&B, honestly it was like staying in a country house with the city just down the road, a very enjoyable experience

A beautiful cottage, open fireplace, large space, great cooking facilities, lovely gardens & barbeque area. Walking distance to shopping in North Adelaide and access to the free City Circle bus. Very quiet and relaxing.

I have a rule never to book anywhere unknown for more than five nights. This is based on my experience that I can put up with anything for five nights, after that it gets tougher. Therefore booking this apartment for six nights broke my own rule, however it was recommended by a reliable source and the website looked promising. This is one of the few places I have stayed in that I would like to live. Well maybe the kitchen would be a bit small for every day, but the apartment has everything I need plus a great location. We will come back and stay here next time we are in Adelaide.

A couple of years ago my wife and I enjoyed our stay in one of the Buxton Manor apartments. But I am sorry to say that Paprika Cottage, in the lovely grounds, is not 'fit for purpose'. It is uncomfortable since the best use is not made of the limited space available. For example, a bulky and uncomfortable sofa takes up much of the living area. There are other problems. The roof is not insulated and the noise from aircraft low overhead can begin as early as 6am. The plumbing and electrics need an upgrade. The kitchen taps make a loud clanking noise which goes right through to one of the bedrooms and the air conditioning units on the walls are old and unsightly. The doors don't fit properly and are awkward to open and close. The cramped bedroom at one end of the cottage has a porch which is not fully enclosed, and the possums get in at night - they are noisy. In their enthusiasm to furnish and equip Paprika Cottage 'in period' the congenial owners have lost sight of the needs of their guests, who, when they are paying an average of $300 a night, are not concerned with arts-and-craftsy quaintness. They want comfort and efficiency and a good night's sleep. That is not available in Paprika Cottage.

We've just spent 5 nights in Butlers apartment having first stayed here over 10 years ago. Loved it then and it is still great. The location is fabulous. Quiet street but easy walk to shops and restaurants in O'connell street. The apartment is very spacious with large bedrooms with comfy beds. Beautifully decorated in period furniture. Like stepping back in time. The gardens are also great for enjoying the autumn sunshine. Will definitely stay here again.

Just loved our week long stay in Butler's Apartment. Lovely charming old building set in a quiet suburb. Kids loved the big bedrooms & gardens .Relaxing place to return to after enjoying the beaches & city . Easy stroll to shops, restaurant & pubs . We were very well looked after , with the owner & manager checking to see if we needed anything , Paul the caretaker is a pure gentleman . Its good to stay in these heritage buildings , as ur money keeps them in existence . Will stay again .

As a regular visitor to Adelaide I've stayed in many places and areas of the city. Six years ago I found Buxton Manor and haven't stayed anywhere else since. North Adelaide is a beautiful area with great amenities and a wide rage of restaurants . Having stayed in all the apartments (with the exception of the loft) I can recommend all. If you have children, want room for them to play, want the option of cooking in house and want to be able to relax as a family for a compatible price to a hotel, this is a fabulous place to stay.

We stayed 5 nights in this charming apartment which easily accommodates 6-7 people. With lovely gardens and close proximity to North Adelaide shops and restaurants it was easy to feel 'at home', especially as we were greeted by the delightful owners on our arrival. The antique furnishings add an extra special feel to this unique property.

Fabulous place to unwind surrounded by 1908 architecture, antique furniture and memorabilia. Each piece described and its history revealed in a compendium compiled by the host so you sink right into the era and ambiance. Reflect on a past world, pretend you are the lord of the manor. I defy anyone not to feel at peace on the art deco lounge in the drawing room.
