Description

Climb on a bike and set off to discover the cultural and historical heart of Kyoto. Cycle down historic streets and by scenic waterways as you discover the city’s most famous and impressive shrines and temples.

After meeting your guide, hop on your bike and cycle along the Kamo River, with its city views and waterfront restaurants, until you reach the Heian-Jingu Shrine. Built in 1894, this Shinto shrine has one of the largest torii gates in the country.

Then, ride next to quaint canals—the breathtaking Higashiyama Mountains serving as a backdrop—to the Nanzenji Temple—one of the most important Zen temples in all of Japan. Hop off to wander the spacious grounds and rock gardens before jumping back on your bike to travel down the cherry-tree lined Path of Philosophy, Kyoto’s most popular walking path.

Cycle back towards Kyoto Station, along a beautiful canal with old teahouses and traditional bathhouses among the cherry trees and traditional narrow backroads.

Kyoto Station Tourism information centre. That's the meet up point. You will find a person with a sign in there. I dont know why Expedia doesnt have this information but please dont get lost like my husband and I + 8 other people in our group. The tour was okay Mr Miyaki was very polite and seemed knowledgable, but it felt that he memorized a lot of the things he said to us. If you ask any question he wasnt able to understand nor answer. Also the tour felt like a good work out more than a tour, we had very few stops on our way which was sad because we had great picture opportunities. You go from Kyoto station to the Kama river than up all the way to the Pagoda passing by a few temples and shrines on your way and the last stop is a souvenir store where he offered us a few mochi matcha candy.

Biking tour was great! Visited a beautiful shrine and a temple. About 3 hours tour, felt longer though. It goes through roads and side walks, some times with lots of traffic and narrow lanes, since there are no biking lanes in Kyoto. Ko (our guide) spoke beautiful english and was very fun and attentive! Made our tour so much better. Only reason not giving five stars is it was stressful to find the meeting point. Directions given were not specific enough (2nd floor of Kyoto station is huge!) and they wouldn't answer the phone number provided for contacting them. It would be more hopeful to say something like "tour guide will wait in front of tourist information centre". Other than that, great experience.

Loved this tour! Our guide Juan was fantastic -he really looked after us and we covered so much ground and he was so knowledgeable. Bike route was mainly flat and very scenic!
