Fly to Stuttgart Airport

Stuttgart is a city of countless sights, and your journey starts when you fly to Stuttgart Airport (STR). The city's focal point is really the Schlossplatz, or Palace Square. It is a striking plaza with fountains, statues, palaces, and breathtaking architectural design. You'll see the spacious and regal New Castle, juxtaposed with the relatively drab, but altogether fascinating Old Castle, which was built in 1322. Konigstrasse, a pedestrian street near the plaza, is the hub of Stuttgart's commercial activity.

Just a little bit to the west of Schlossplatz, you'll find Liederhalle, a concert hall built in the progressive style after World War II, it s also the home of the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra.

If you travel up slightly northeast, you'll find the elegantly-manicured Wilhelma; Europe s only combined zoo and botanical garden. Located on the banks of the Neckar River, it boasts 5,000 different plants and over 8,000 different animals.

Getting around

Once your flight lands at Stuttgart Airport (STR) you ll find the airport is about eight miles southwest of the city center. You can make your way to the city using the city s transportation system, ranging from trams and light rails to buses and rack railways.

Hints and Tips

If you're looking for good German eats, then there are plenty of traditional restaurants like the Weinhaus Stetter near the Schlossplatz.
