Fly to Plan de Guadalupe International Airport (SLW) to visit the beautiful Mexican city of Saltillo. Modern Saltillo is a base of manufacturing for Mexico, but it also celebrates a rich cultural history. The Museo del Desierto delves deeply into desert life and ecology if you want to learn more about local history. The city also has a number of beautiful, colonial-style buildings like the Saltillo Cathedral.
The desert heavily influences Saltillo's history, and you can see the cave paintings of Saltillo's ancient ancestors at Narigua Valley. Rincon Colorado is the location where Mexico's first complete dinosaur fossil was found and includes a museum.
Stroll through downtown Saltillo to experience the city's charmingly colonial feel. Saltillo Cathedral and Saltillo Casino, both historical landmarks in their own right, line the streets along with plenty of shops and restaurants. The nearby Sierra de Arteaga is a great place to get into nature for a hike or a skiing excursion.
The airport can be reached via connecting flights from Monterrey or Mexico City. Much of Saltillo can be explored on foot, but the TranVia trolleys provide convenient service through most of downtown. Consider visiting Saltillo during the festivities of the religious Santo Cristo Festival to see the streets of the city come to life with parades and music.
