The city of Sharjah is the capital of the emirate of Sharjah, one of seven in the United Arab Emirates. While not quite as ostentatious as either Dubai or Abu Dhabi, people fly to Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) for the city's rich culture and industry. Inside the old town, you can cover a lot of territory on foot. Set aside plenty of time to explore the arts and heritage areas, and don't forget the museums and souks.
Al Majaz Waterfront is the number one attraction for visitors who fly to Sharjah International Airport (SHJ). The Sharjah Fountain sends jets of water half a mile in the air, while cybernetic fountains more than one mile wide create fantastic water shows using combinations of high-tech light, sound and lasers. Visitors to outdoor cafes and restaurants are treated to these spectacular displays daily.
The Sharjah Light Festival takes place in February and lasts for nine days, when Sharjah dances in floods of light to the beat of captivating music. When you fly to SHJ, make sure your outfit complies with the city s local dress code. During July and August, daily mean temperatures hover in the low 80 degrees F. In January, the weather is milder, and temperatures drop to around 53 degrees F. You can access the airport, located on the Arabian Peninsula on the northern shore of the Persian Gulf, via Al Dhaid Road.
