Cardiff is a city whose history can be traced back to the construction of Cardiff Castle more than 2,000 years ago. Today it is a modern metropolis, the capital of Wales. The city is served by Cardiff International Airport (CWL), from which it's a short trip to a number of points of interest.
In addition to Cardiff Castle, St. Fagan's National History Museum and Wales Millennium Centre are among the best-known structures in Cardiff. Be sure to visit the National Museum and Art Gallery as well. If you're a fan of the television series Doctor Who, you'll enjoy the Doctor Who Experience at Cardiff Bay. The bay is a lovely place to rent a boat or enjoy an afternoon tour. Visitors to the area traveling with children may want to check out Bute Park or the Mambo Play Center. Caerphilly Mountain, less than 10 miles outside the city, is a great place for hiking or biking.
Travelers who fly to Cardiff International Airport (CWL) can take a shuttle to the Rhoose railway station, which is on the Vale of Glamorgan Line. Buses and taxis are also available, or you can rent a car at the terminal. The airport is 10 miles from the M4 motorway. Check out the Cardiff Carnival if you're visiting in the summer.
