Fly to Queen Beatrix International Airport

Aruba is a tiny Caribbean island blessed with pristine sands and interesting natural features. All air traffic to the island goes through Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA).

To get from Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) to Oranjestad, the capitol, take a fixed rate taxi. Some hotels offer free transfers - check whether yours does.

Oranjestad itself is an interesting place to visit, with Fort Zoutman Historical Museum well worth a couple of hours of your time - once a week it also hosts the Bon Bini Festival; a weekly music and dance festival, every Tuesday at 6:30pm in the courtyard of Fort Zoutman, which is also known as Aruba s oldest building.

Elsewhere in the island, be sure to visit the California Lighthouse with its scenic views, and the Arikok National Park, where you can see lava formations. Nature lovers will enjoy the Bubali Bird Sanctuary and the Donkey Sanctuary, which takes in and cares for some of Aruba's hundreds of wild donkeys.

Hints and Tips

The beautiful beaches of Aruba are the main draw for tourists. Some of the best are Baby Beach - so named for its shallow waters, and perfect for children, and the stunning Eagle Beach, where you can view nesting turtles.

Watersports enthusiasts will want to head to Boca Grandi, which is perfect for surfing and other activities.

It was just ok... seats were very cramped and I could not upgrade

The woman in Aruba who checked us was very helpful as well as friendly. The airport in Aruba has made some changes in their check in procedures which has greatly improved the speed of that procedure.
