We booked 3 nights in Zagreb. We found out that our flight was cancelled due to airline strike and we had to leave a day early. The hotel was not willing to consider a partial refund, not even the 2 days of breakfasts that were prepaid. Our stay was affected by a dignitary party staying while we were there (president of Montenegro for a soccer match). This made the experience less pleasant with staff and many guards in the sitting areas and guarding elevators and doors. We travel a fair amount and have not had an experience like this before staying in a luxury hotel where staff and management not willing to consider any adjustment to our bill. Would not recommend this hotel in the future. Very disappointed in lack of support from Expedia.

Very nice hotel. All the staff was friendly and helpful with dinner reservations. The hotel location was great for walking to site seeing attractions. The only thing I did not care for was when we were in the lounge one night there were a couple of people with their dogs. For such a nice hotel I did not expect to see dogs.

From the moment I arrived, the staff was wonderful. The facility is beautiful and amenities were plenty. The room was spacious. Bed was very comfortable. The shower had nice water pressure and was hot, much appreciated after 22 hours of travel.

The Bistro restaurant stood out - the staff was amazingly friendly and the food really good compared to the Esplande one where it felt like there had been a conflict or something as some staff was quite curt and looked very serious. It also took a long time to get served. For breakfast, we just felt that compared to other 5 star hotels - and this is a very small detail, but the cappucino was bleak and we missed the sweet cinnamon/cardemom hearts etc that usually come on top. Overall though, the experience was very positive and we could envision coming back.

I had a truly wonderful experience at the Esplanade in Zagreb! This iconic hotel, with over 100 years of history, is beautifully maintained and exudes timeless elegance. The staff were exceptional—especially the concierge and reception team, who were both professional and genuinely friendly. Its location is ideal for travelers: just steps from the main train station and within easy reach of the bus terminal. The charming old town is a pleasant 15–20 minute walk away. Room service was prompt and satisfying, adding to the overall comfort of the stay. In short, the Esplanade is a place I’d gladly return to—and I’ll be recommending it to all my friends.

Good location very close to main town square- 10min easy walking distance. The hotel has a lot of history as it is more than 100years old and they did an amazing job maintaining and keeping it modernized yet retain much of its history. Staff was excellent, very pleasant and helpful. Recommended
