The area was beautiful. Wadi Rum amazing! This location is good. The owner Saif, however is not.
At this camp you are reliant on them to pick you up and book activities because essentially you’re in the middle of nowhere (and actually not even in Wadi Rum, but outside of it). The owner will charge you based on how much he thinks you’ll pay, include secret commissions, changing you room and calling it an “upgrade”, making you feel trapped and pay for a transfer to the village, and sells you activities but it’s never clear what they include, where they are, or when they start.
It’s impossible to buy food from this location so he also can charge you as much as he wants for dinner and breakfast (strangely no lunch was offered) and there’s not a lot of choice but to pay it.
He will offer you a “package”. It will keep changing and cost more if he thinks you’re rich. I recommend just booking activities from a reliable website and skip the whole song and dance.
Also they turn on and off the generator for heat and AC so you can’t control how warm or cold your room is which is necessary in the cold/hot desert.
This was one of our only negative experiences in an incredible trip to Jordan. Everyone else we interacted with was kind, helpful and eager to help show us their beautiful country.
