Cotswold Stone, found in the area, was used extensively in the construction of the village. It is located in the middle of the Cotswolds Way National Trail on a hill overlooking one of the Five Valleys in the Stroud area. It has a popular golf course on the outskirts of town and is home to a cricket and rugby team. The Royal Oak is a local watering hole known for its traditional fare, homely fireplaces, and outdoor courtyard. The village store is located directly across from the bar. The Painswick Beacon is only a twenty-minute stroll from the centre of the village, and it offers breath-taking panoramas of Gloucester, the River Severn, and the Malvern Hills. The Painswick Centre is home to the ACP Gallery, among other events and exhibitions.
