Disappointed.

Breakfast was appalling . Not even 1 star. No espresso or Cappucino on offer or if one wanted some cheese in the omelette also not on offer. Catering surely for the Western market not considered. As for service same rating.Have stayed several times at this hotel and it’s gone down hill. Will not be staying there again. Have skipped breakfast on all previous trips. Definitely a wise decision. A shame as Hotel position is good and really could be transformed into a 4/5 star hotel.

Great historical building in an extremely convenient location. Owners did a great job of bringing the hotel back to its former glory. Unfortunately it has been neglected, and is now somewhat shabby and dusty. Still, the Mansion Hotel is a wonderful opportunity to revisit the roaring 20s in Shanghai.

Old French precinct

We loved staying in this beautiful building designed by famous French architect Lafayette; it's a reminder of former, grand times. Our room was very spacious with lovely furniture and though it faced the street, no traffic sound intruded.

Very cool stay in gracious area

Very very cool old mansion converted to lux property. Beautiful room/ bath really lux. Bed ok. airflow on my courtyard room weird. staff pro and nice, English can still sometimes be challenging, but hey its China. I'd return!

Comfortable stay and beautiful hotel.

Room is very tidy and comfortable. When we walk in the room, we saw 2 big pears on the table and later afternoon they sent another 3 oranges to our room. So nice. The bed is very good to sleep. The room is very classic and beautiful. We love it. We definitely will stay in this hotel next time.

Pretty Good Hotel.

The Mansion Hotel has impressive and interesting rooms. Cleanliness and comfort were good. The wifi was bad. The area around the hotel is excellent and walking distance to many shops, restaurants and bars.

A great find in Puxi

A lovely small hotel with a fascinating history. It would be nice for guests to be able to learn more about its former owners and its history. The most comfortable bed we have slept in. Great that you can open the windows even if it was mid winter - very unusual for a hotel. The two slight disappointments were the breakfast (limited by western hotel standards) - and the quality of the WI-Fi which could have been stronger.

1930's Shanghai style with modern comforts

My stay at the Mansion took me back to the beauty, style and history of 1930's Shanghai. This is truly a lovely hotel updated with modern conveniences (a/c, WIFI) and a very comfortable and clean bed. I really recommend it.

Great price, great location

For an old world Shanghai experience on the best little street in the French Concession, stay here. Walking distance to everything, huge rooms and the ambience of an old Shanghai mansion. The only downside; the carpets are definitely in need of cleaning. The should rip them out and go for the old hardwood floors -- then this place would be perfect.

Overall, a very nice stay, and lots of personality

Had a good stay overall, just two issues: 1) The hotel said they could not call a taxi for me when I needed one, resulting in a cancelled dinner meeting, and 2) they forgot my wake-up call the last night. Fortunately, I just use hotel wake-up calls as a "just-in-case", so I was up anyway. Otherwise everything was fine and I will stay there again.

Perfect Location.....But!

We spent five nights at the Mansion Hotel in the French Concession area of Shanghai. We particularly like small boutique properties and areas that are a bit quirky ....we thought we had nailed it. The location is excellent, and our room was quiet and of a decent size....but it could be sooooo much better. Every contact with the hotel and staff could only be rated as poor to average, from our arrival when our taxi driver had to shout in the hotel foyer to fine someone, anyone, alive (!) in reception..from there it stumbled and staggered ....the place is in need of a good scrub, well a complete redecoration to be completely honest, carpets are dirty, decor is overstuffed, velvet uncomfortable faux Victorian, reminiscent of something out of Agatha Christie novels, so bizarre in Shanghai...and one ghastly grubby armchair in a room for a double, such a no no in hospitality as someone has to sit on the bed ..a meal in the hotels much mentioned restaurant, not on the roof, was chaos, no tables laid, one table occupied with smokers, and so a beer and one entree after an hour of scuttling and rushing mindlessly...we have up! The French Concession area is a leafy interesting part of Shanghai, very easy for exploring the many little boutiques, book shops, secret little garden spaces and plenty of food opportunities.... The Mansion Hotel could be wonderful, but sadly missed the boat for us....

Different spot in Shanghai

The decor of this hotel is amazing and the location in the French concession can't be beat. I had three slight issues. One was that my room was a toasty 25 degrees no matter what I did to the thermostat. Two was I found a long black hair in the bathroom (attached to my foot) which clearly wasn't mine. It didn't bother me but other people might be bothered by it. And since they're renovating the restaurant upstairs construction noise started at 8 am. I was up so again wasn't too bothered but you might be. But these are minor points and overall it's a fine hotel.
