This property is absolutely beautiful with the most stunning views of Robin Hood Bay, The bedroom we had was a little on the tired side but the public areas are stunning and must have been recently renovated. Thankfully we visited whilst there were no weddings on, so we had full access to all areas but be aware that if you are a private individual visiting whilst a wedding is on, your access will be limited so best to double check in advance.

This property has an identity crisis and would only recommend staying hear if you are part of a wedding party. As a general guest you don’t have access to the gardens or main bar. Only dining option is at the bark where its cold and dark. Staff prioritize weddings parties over guests.

Worst stay in 2025. Poor service. Poor attitude.

Terrible receptionist who coudnt bring herwelf to smile at arriging guests. Had indifferent attitude. Both hot and cold.taps in shower produce scoling got water. Unable to take a shower. Loud wedding music until midnight. Do not stay here unless yoy are part of a qedding party. This is a wedding venue not a hotel

We've stayed at this hotel a few times, but not recently, last stay prior to this one, was a couple of years ago. The hotel is now a wedding venue. On our arrival, due to a wedding being on, the grounds were temporarily out of bounds. The panoramic dining area/restaurant is now a wedding function room and not for non wedding guests to use. There is a small, darker far less picturesque room/bar area which is used for dinner and breakfast. We checked into a standard double room, room number 104 on the first floor. The room was clean and tidy, lovely view across the bay to Robin Hoods Bay, all seemed good. We went out that evening and returned to our room about 2100 hrs. Thats when things turned bad, our room was directly above the function room (old panoramic dining area), the noise of partying, announcements and ridiculously load music was horrendous. I think the music stopped about midnight, however from then until about 2am, there was constantly people returning to rooms and slamming doors. Breakfast the next morning was a buffet style self service, plenty of hot and cold options. We opted for the cooked breakfast, in general it was over cooked and tasteless. I would be very reluctant to use this hotel again and would certainly never consider using it over a wedding event. It's such a pity, it used to be such a picturesque and characterful place to say. We were not aware that a wedding was on at the time of booking, luckily we were only staying for one night.

Stay at Grand Villa Hights

Wedding venue took precedence over other guest! No longer bay view restaurant, no golf course does not exist anymore. Gardens closed off to non wedding guests

Excellent stay. Stunning views with a beautiful garden surround the property, which can compensate for everything, e.g. slightly old facilities. The location is conveniently closer to Whitby and Scarborough within 30 30-minute drive. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The bedrooms were advertised as ‘exquisite’ but they weren’t even acceptable. The bedroom we were intially offered had holes in the wall, had damp on the ceiling, beard trimmings on the dressing table, dirty stained carpet, broken bath panel, wallpaper peeling off and smelt very musty. We couldn’t stay in the room in the condition it was so left 45 minutes after checking in. Despite contacting the hotel twice, we have not had a reply or acknowledgment. Considering the generally Good reviews for this hotel, I was shocked at the condition of the rooms. Please consider staying at this hotel very carefully before committing. The only saving grace was the lovely receptionist.

A great place to stay if you're walking or cycling in the area and need a base. I was satisfied with the accommodation for the price and included breakfast. Room we got was at the back, very dated, a bit noisy from the boiler units outside and furniture was uncomfortable. Breakfast was OK.

Hotel with great history.

This hotel has so much amazing history. Really find it hard to believe that the current owners need to rename it ! And such an inappropriate name too. The bedroom are very tired. The bedrooms need a massive overhaul and bringing tastefully uptodate. The garden nearest the hotel are ok but the gardens and paths down to the 'castle' like area need attention as they could be beautiful. This hotel has the potential to be amazing just hope owners make the best of it. The staff were all very pleasant. Service was good. Drinks were expensive. Breakfast was very good.
