Amazing place, guides were incredibly knowledgeable about the land and the Mayan culture. The food was delicious, and the place was just beautiful. Onsite hikes in the rain forest and floating the river in inner tubes are well worth it. Also worth seeing the Mayan ruins and cave exploring were well worth it.
Love the lodge feel and extremely kind and helpful staff. Our family stayed for three nights. Since driving the last mile was a little challenging, we opted to have dinners every night at the Lodge. Great service and wonderful food, but a bit on the pricier side compared to eating in town. We did the ATM excursion through the lodge. Xuanantunich was so close, we opted to drive via our rental and hired a private guide for $50 on-site. We did tubing on-site which was a flat 30-minute walk about and ride down. Great fun for our family of four. Would highly recommend.
The commodities was good the location very quiet , the 7 miles gravel road was hard on us however we forgot that with the excellent services from all the stafs especially the host master and all the table servers. Also the food was excellent the menu variety and the attention to our allergic and dietary restriction was absolutely fantastic
The experience our family had at Black Rock Lodge exceeded anything I could have wished for. From the moment Fernando picked us up at the airport, we knew we were in for a good time. The nearly 2 1/2 hour drive went fast as he thought of everything. He had water and snacks ready for us when we got into the vehicle. We made a stop for iced coffee and saw a fabulous wood working gallery before reaching the lodge. The most unexpected thing for me was his willingness to make an unplanned visit to the San Ignacio market. I had watched numerous YouTube video. I had mentioned I wanted to see the vibrant market. He gladly stopped and walked with us around fruit -vegetable vendors and explained the spices and the items. It was thrilling. The French Bakery in the town is a must. Arrival at the lodge started with tropical drinks while overlooking a vast tropical rain forest. My husband is an avid birder. He was on cloud 9 for the 4 days we had there. The night hike was fun for our oldest son. Our family was fascinated by the tour of the Mayan Ruin Xunantunich which was led by Isaias. He is brilliant with birds but equally winsome in explaining the history and culture of the Mayans. The added bonus for me was the stop for lunch at Bennys a local restaurant. Not only was the food yummy and priced fair, the vibe of the atmosphere really connected you with how locals live. The food at the lodge is delicious. Virginia is a stand out for gracious hospitality. We will go back!!
Absolutely one of a kind. Picturesque setting, amazing staff, amazingly delicious food, great access to activities and breathtakingly beautiful and welcoming.
The staff was AMAZING!! The food was some of the best food I have ever had! We had massages that were great! Enjoyed tubing (& successfully made it over the falls!), rope swing into the river, hiking & night hike. The resort scheduled all our transportation (to/from Belize City) & the ATM tour we did. We stayed 4 nights. In hind sight the only thing we would have done differently was booked a room with A/C. The humidity was brutal in May.
This is a hidden gem in the jungle. The cabins are beautiful and private. The staff is wonderful. Very helpful and friendly. The restaurant serves 3 wonderful meals everyday. Highly recommend Black Rock Lodge for a jungle adventure. They also help book all of your adventures.
All of the staff went above and beyond expectations. They ensured our comfort and were incredibly knowledgeable about the surroundings.
The atmosphere was welcoming and absolutely breathtaking.
Our guides, Francisco and Jeffrey, made our family trip extra special.
The lodge and its staff were incredible. I can’t give it enough praise! The food was top notch and probably some of the best we had on our trip. The feeling of being in the jungle and surrounded by nature and wildlife was a real treat. The staff were very friendly, super helpful, and did everything to make you feel at home. I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s a must stay!
The lodge is in the jungle on the mecal river. There are plenty of activities to do right there. The guides are amazing and know their birds. Everyone who works there was friendly and nice
Black Rock Lodge is one of the best eco lodges at which I have had the privilege to stay. Anywhere in the world. The staff, the food, the room - all exceptional. The lodge’s wild yet still serene ambience is a perfect base to explore the region. This is what nature-based travel is all about, and the people here are what truly make it. If you choose to stay, you are in for a treat.
We enjoyed our week at Blackrock Lodge and did several tours through them. Please note that the bigger tours (Tikal, Caracol, ATM) are subcontracted to third parties and the quality varies with some being outstanding and others a little rough around the edges. Food was excellent. I especially enjoyed the 4 course candle lit dinners and wine selection. They tried very hard to accomodate my allergies. The grounds and rooms are exceptionally beautiful. The beautiful location comes from being built into a river gorge and some rooms (especially the newer riverview ones) require going up and down the steep stairs multiple times per day. The original rooms are close to the level of the restaurant and are better for those who want to minimize going up and down the steep slope, but are slightly less private. I also appreciated the efficient pick up from the water taxi and drop off to the airport. We would definately stay there again.
We stayed here for 3 nights and had an absolutely amazing experience from check in to check out. We elected to rent a jeep and were met in the parking lot by a staff member who got our bags and took them to our room while we were checked in and given an explanation of the property and their processes, etc. The concierge arranged all of our outings and everyone we encountered here were extremely nice and helpful.
The beds were comfortable and the cabins were clean. Make sure you bring bug spray - we also brought the mosquito coils that we lit while we were relaxing in the hammocks which kept most of the bugs away.
The food and drink were amazing and the service we received was wonderful. We stayed over American Thanksgiving and the they offered a Thanksgiving menu for dinner. Be aware they have limited selections each day due to the fact that they prepare all the food with fresh ingredients. For dinner we were offered a meat option, vegetarian option, and pasta option. Dinner is a four course meal, breakfast and lunch were a la cart with a good amount of menu options.
I would absolutely stay here again!!
Black Rock Lodge has to be one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. The location was just breathtaking, with so much wildlife around. The staff were all so welcoming, helpful and personable, and all of them were so knowledgable. Unfortunately the road up was a bit scary but they were all so reassuring! If I come back to Belize I would definitely stay here again!
