The Fishin' Hole In Valley Of The Pines Red River

The town of Red River is located in the middle of the Carson National Forest with hiking trails leading, among other places, up to Wheeler Peak, the highest point in New Mexico. The Red River Ski Area offers snow skiing and snowboarding beginning on the Thanksgiving holidays and continuing through Spring Break. Even when the natural snow is not as plentiful, the Red River Ski Area has the best snow-making in the state of New Mexico. Red River is just a fun town and is great for families. The town has wonderful shopping and galleries, nice restaurants, and even places to two-step.

The Fishin’ Hole is nestled in the Valley of the Pines just 3 miles outside of Red River. This quaint, three bedrooms, two bath cabin sleeps 8, has a full-size kitchen, wood-burning fireplace and washer and dryer. Two bedrooms each with queen beds are on the first floor, while the upstairs has another queen bed and a double in separate areas. The best “room”, however, is the new deck out back that overlooks the Red River that flows just 20 feet from the back door. The sound of the river is soothing to the soul, and the excellent fishing will provide the freshest, rainbow trout dinner around! The river is stocked in the summer months, and this location on the river is ideal for a good catch! Fishing not your thing? Art lovers will enjoy the numerous art galleries in both Red River and Taos, just 40 minutes away. Music lovers will find plenty of venues, hikers plenty of trails, and horse lovers trails to ride. Shoppers can park at one end of the town and stroll through the many, cute shops, stopping for a bite to eat at any corner. In the center of town is the Red River Community House, built in 1940. For generations, vacationers have returned to this spot for traditions all ages have loved, such as line-dancing, two stepping, guided hikes, boat-building for kids, movies on the lawn, and, best of all, endless egg tosses for all on the 4th of July.

Throughout the year you will have great fun watching the torchlight parade during ski season, enjoy Mardi Gras in the Mountains during February, the Fine Art and Wine Festival in June, the 4th of July Parade, the Hot Chili Days, Cool Mountain Nights celebration in August, Aspencade Arts & Crafts Festival in September, and Oktoberfest in October.

This cozy cabin is a little bit of heaven located high in the Rocky Mountains. It’s sure to bring joy to all ages. If you want to venture beyond Red River, Angel Fire, with a beautiful, 18-hole golf course, is about an hour away in Taos and 2 hours from Santa Fe, with its shopping, art galleries and restaurants. Come refresh you soul at the Fishin’ Hole!

The cabin is heated and features a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a balcony, and there's space to spread out with 4 bedrooms. Guests can expect to find free WiFi and a Smart TV with a DVD player. Other standard amenities include a washing machine, a fireplace, and a coffee maker.

What a wonderful cabin and the property was spectacular! We spent 2 weeks there and couldn’t be happier. We will miss the walks and sound of the river right outside the back door. We hope to be back some day.

Great location just a few minutes outside of town. The river behind the house, the back porch, and the fire pit was so relaxing. The house had everything we needed and plenty of space! A great variety of games kept the teens and adults occupied.

We enjoyed our stay at the Fishin' Hole. We had plenty of room for our group and the loft was perfect for the kids. The downstairs bedrooms were a nice size and had plenty of closet space. The loft had 3 beds and was perfect for nap time for the kids ,when the adults wanted to chat downstairs. It was easy to get to and Red River was just a 6 minute drive. The house is located in a very pretty area and still had snow for the kids to play in. The river behind the house was so relaxing while you sat on the huge porch or around the fire pit! There was a gas fire pit and a traditional fire pit!! The grill at the house was awesome. There is no central air or heat, but once the heater gets going it warms the house wonderfully. The loft was always nice and warm for the kids. Heat really does rise. The host had heaters in each bedroom too, we only used ours one night because the main heater worked great. Having a fireplace was really nice too, had a fire every night of our stay. The kitchen was stocked nicely with essentials. The washer and dryer definitely came in handy, especially with little ones. The host Spence was very quick to respond to any of our questions. We would definitely stay at the Fishin' hole again.
The porch , it was large and had comfortable chairs.
The beautiful river steps away from the house.
The warm and mesmerizing fireplace.

Cabin had mostly all pros and just a few cons. Beds were cozy, living area had plenty of cozy seating, back deck is closer to river than photos showed which was a plus. The cabin overall was clean, well appointed and very comfortable. The only thing that would have made it better would be to have a powder room in 2nd floor and also to have the fire pit in the back yard by the river. But would definitely stay here again. The cabin is also along a low traffic road which made morning walks very enjoyable. Very nice place to vacation!

The Fishin’ Hole actually exceeded our expectations. We had searched for a cabin on the river several times, and had actually decided on another cabin in the Upper Valley when I found the listing for The Fishin’ Hole. After giving it lots of thought and reading reviews, we rolled the dice and booked Spence and Debbie’s cabin on the river. We have NO regrets! Check-in was a simple keypad code. The kitchen, den, and dining room provided everything we needed. Modern washer, dryer and supplies were tucked away in a hallway alcove. All the small appliances and utensils we needed for our meals were provided. The bedrooms and two bathrooms were neat and clean and linens looked and smelled fresh. While many comparable cabins offer those things, it is the large back deck, shady backyard, 30’ proximity to the river, and the sound of the water flowing over the rocks that sets it apart from other rentals. We had hoped for a serene setting where we could enjoy being outdoors, and The Fishin’ Hole checked off 10 of 10! Although we normally like to try different places, this cabin will be on our list of places to go in 2026 as well!

PEACEFUL & BEAUTIFUL

This was a quick weekend getaway with my husband, our dogs and my sister in-law and her husband. We loved the location and the river at the back porch. This location was on the outskirts of town and was perfect for our weekend get away. It was away from the busyness and we could walk our dogs in the neighborhood. The house was clean. The owners were always quick to get back with me when I had a question. We would love to stay here again when we come back.

As good as advertised

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everything was just as advertised and we were very pleased with the cabin and its amenities. The owners have obviously put a lot of work into making the property cozy and quaint. The small river peacefully running directly behind the house offered just about the only sound in this beautiful location in the Valley of the Pines. We would love to return to The Fishin’ Hole and would recommend it to others!

Perfect setting nuzzled in the pines. The relaxing sound of the river running through the back was so peaceful. Quick drive into town for all the activities and restaurants yet allowed us the solitude and quiet get away we were wanting. Picturesque! Cozy, comfy and everything you need!
