Great Hotel

Excellent location, just a short walk to the beach and nearby restaurants. The staff were fantastic, and the breakfast was delicious. I highly recommend booking one of the rooms with a private sun bed by the pool for an extra touch of relaxation.

Umami is a gorgeous garden hotel! We loved our suites. The decor is just stunning. The staff is courteous and kind. Breakfast tasted amazing! We loved the rice and beans. The parking is minimal. However using bikes, a tuk tuk, or walking is the best way to get around this jungle beach town. Bring earplugs because the birds and other lodgings in the area may wake you up. As a Jamaican, I loved our culture mixed in. We loved Old Habour aka Puerto Viejo! We will definitely go back and stay at Umami again.

Starting with the Breakfast, excellent!! Their rice and beans should win a award and I am Jamaican so that is definitely a compliment. Best hotel in the area and you must go to eat at Lcangrejo Rojo. Caribbean seafood. Chef Larry is 5 star.

Umami Hotel Feb 25

We stayed 3 nights at Umami in Puerto Viejo. The hotel is lovely, quiet and set back from the main road through the town but still only a 5min stroll to the seafront. Room itself was clean and modern with AC. Breakfast was typical Costa Rican and served by the pool each morning which was great. Free parking right outside. I’d certainly return to the hotel and only have good things to say about our time there. One advice I’d give is to avoid the sister hotel’s restaurant (Num at Namu) - it’s overpriced, quite basic and has no atmosphere and eat in the town itself.

No Glass Shower

The hotel grounds ,the staff, the location and the breakfast was all great. We had a premium room. The shower is the problem. There is no glass around it, so by the time you finish there is a flood on the bathroom floor, Now you get to stand in water and brush your teeth ,shave ext. then you track water around the rest of the room. I wish the owners would try taking a shower in this room and see how they like it.

The Umami is a wonderful oasis in Puerto Viejo. Very nice room (no moisturizer provided tho) and the shower was nice. The staff is VERY helpful and would stay there again if we were in the area

Bra frukost och trevlig personal. Gillade även läget. Hade önskat fler solbäddar vid poolen (fanns enbart 4 st). Rummen var fräscha men sängen knarrade väldigt mycket, skulle behövas bytas ut. Var även relativt lyhört från rummet vilket ibland störde. Lite förvånande att de även tog betalt för små vattenflaskor på rummet.

Review for Umami Hotel I had an amazing stay at Umami Hotel! The service was excellent—the staff was friendly, attentive, and always ready to help with anything we needed. The price-to-quality ratio is fantastic. The rooms are modern, clean, and very comfortable, offering great value for the price. Breakfast was a highlight—delicious and well-prepared with fresh ingredients. It’s a great way to start the day before exploring the area. Another big plus is the location. There are plenty of dining options nearby, all within walking distance, making it super convenient to enjoy local cuisine without needing transportation. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort, convenience, and excellent service at a reasonable price! Would definitely stay here again.

Happy Umami

We’ve stayed here twice and it’s a beautiful hotel. They go out of the way to accommodate your checkins and travel. The staff is always very sweet and helpful. The hotel is super clean and that’s important to me because I am not fond of critters. The front desk people have helped us find activities, transportation, and late night food:) the hotel has a nice, full bar which is prefect for pool time. We love the breakfast, always awesome! If you want a quiet, romantic place where you can easily walk to restaurants, grocery, bars and the beach then make your reservation soon!
