The staff were excellent and helpful. The room was clean. There was a mini fridge, kettle and cups, which we used and a complimentary bottle of water everyday. We also had a complimentary glass of port and pastel de nata, which was nice. It's close to São Bento station and walkable to Vila Nova de Gaia across the Dom Luis I Bridge.

The hotel is ideally located by the riviera. Rooms are comfortable, some have great views. Bathroom size is adequate. However, breakfast. Breakfast is served daily from 7:30-12. Already a long stretch yes, but inconvenient. Most tours and excursions depart between 7:30 and 8am. So you miss out on breakfast which was our case on 3 days. On two days we came down at 7:20 and asked if we could have breakfast (already spread out and served) and were denied. One of the days I asked if I could just grab an apple from the fruit bowl and was also denied. It’s the small details that make a difference. Also, the spread was exactly the same every single day. Fruit cocktail (canned), canned baked beans, two types of yogurt, bread baskets and pastries, bacon, eggs, salad and one fruit. So, the whole breakfast is included is questionable. An apple? Really?

Steer clear if you are allergic or affected by strong scents! The hotel uses a very strong perfumed air scent—plug-in type that disperses scent everywhere—that is very noticeable in the main lobby and the hallways. It is less obvious in the room but drifts in when the door is open and through the air vents. Had we known, we wouldn’t have stayed there. The windows face the hallway windows and other room windows so you need to keep drapes closed at all times if you want privacy. A small item but they wouldn’t refill the refillable water bottle in our room even though it doesn’t cost them anything. One good touch was a welcome drink and pastry.

No comment provided for breakfast because we didn't eat breakfast at the property. Only comment would be regarding payment. Throughout our visit in Portugal, this was the only hotel that provided an option to pay in Euros or USD and we mistakenly paid in USD which was more expensive than paying in local currency.
