Beautiful tranquil hotel

Great little gem high up on the mountain which gorgeous tranquil views. Receptionist was super helpful and very informative, always helped us where we can. Couldnt fault the hotel, it was a lovely stay, great staff..amazing breakfast and beautiful nooks around the hotel. A joy to stay.

Villa Alto is a lovely old house set high up in the hills above Ponta do Sol. With beautiful views. You will definitely need a hire car. The Staff are wonderful and work very hard to make you feel welcome. The breakfast is amazing, all freshly made from scratch. Sadly there was no dinner service available during our stay. Our room (no 9)was small and needed some TLC. The weather during our stay was stormy and the room was cold and damp. The curtains were stained and hanging from the rails. The sash windows need attention/replacement as all three were exposed to the wind and rain. We would definitely return to Villa Alto and hope for better weather.

Excellent hosts at this magnificent old-school hotel. The views are stunning, and the interior of the hotel is warm and welcoming. GPS directions don’t work so well, so just follow the blue signs up from the center of Ponta do Sol

Set high up on the side of a mountain, you have beautiful views from your room and property. The rooms are older but go with the setting and are very comfortable. The staff is outstanding. Graciela and Brayanni were so helpful and fun to talk to. They both truly made our stay incredible. There is a daily breakfast, which was outstanding. There is wine, beer, and other spirits that can be purchased on premises during your stay. The pool was wonderful, but if you don’t like pools, ask for some beach towels and head to one of many beaches. If you like cats, there are some to great you everyday. They were so sweet and friendly.

We had a lovely relaxing holiday watching birds of prey over the gorge by the pool. The staff are excellent and the food delicious. High up in the mountains so nice and quiet. We hired a car but I think there were buses available near by.

Boutique hotel sounded like a good idea until we had to take an extremely dangerous road to reach the place with very limited parking spots. Our room did not have Air conditioning, not even a fan and the room was very warm. Opening the window connected you with the noisy road right at the window and leaving you completely exposed to anyone climbing in the room through the window. The front desk lady was rude, and did not even offer any accommodations to make our stay bearable and so we had to leave and book another hotel. If you want to go for a very steep adventure, risk not having a parking and sleeping in a room with no ventilation, air conditioning or a fan the this might be your place.

Peaceful characterful hotel

This hotel is uphill from Ponta do Sol and, having arrived from Funchal by bus, we were prepared to walk what looks on the map like a couple of kilometres. However, we decided to take a taxi and were glad we did, as the journey by road is more like 6 or 7 kms. The taxi was 10eu, quite reasonable. At the hotel a very warm welcome from charming manager Feliks, who went out of his way to be helpful at all times. Beautifully situated old manor house in a peaceful rural location, with immense traditional character, well appointed rooms & fabulous views. Amazing value. Good buffet breakfasts in the attached restaurant, though we were disappointed that it was otherwise closed (perhaps out of season?) as we had no car. There are few local facilities apart from a cafe next door with limited menu. Nevertheless we enjoyed our peaceful days by the pool and a couple of pleasant levada walks accessible just up the hill. Our only criticism/suggestion is about the mention on the website of own quinta produce such as orchard fruit and honey, raising expectations of sampling home-produced foods. Sadly, not only was there no such produce apparent at breakfast but, as almost always these days, standard mass-produced fare such as plastic & foil servings of imported butter, jam and honey. What a shame! It would really enhance the customer experience and the reputation of a character rural hotel like this to offer locally sourced ingredients.

Das Frühstück war hervorragend und sehr divers. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und das Zimmer und das gesamte Haus sehr stylisch mit Liebe zum Detail eingerichtet. Die Unterkunft ist etwas umständlicher zu erreichen mit dem Fahrzeug, dafür mit wunderschöner Aussicht. Einziger Kritikpunkt wäre, dass das Zimmer etwas sauberer sein könnte und die Räumlichkeiten nicht mehr im Neusten Zustand sind.

Hotellet er et smukt gammelt hotel. Men ingen service ig ikke alle medarbejdere talte engelsk. Pool håndklæder skulle man lede efter. Katte og kattehår gør det svært for folk med allergi. Beskeden morfenmadsbuffet.

Die Lage ist gut, aber es müssten dringend mal die Zimmer renoviert werden. In unserem Fall ließ sich die Badtüre nicht schließen (verzogen). Die Eingangstür zum Zimmer ist so undicht, dass der komplette Lichteinfall von draußen nach innen scheint.

Situation au calme mais à quel prix !

Très bon petit déjeuner. Accès difficile en pleine montagne avex des % élevés. Ceci dit, cela ne doit pas poser de problème pour quelqu'un habitant en montagne. Personnel un peu froid, excepté la dame de l'accueil, pour le coup accueillante ! Nous avions pourtant une excellente image des portuguais, extrêmement gentils et accueillants, vela a t-il changé ou est-ce uniquement à Madère ? Belle piscine, à l'ombre tout l'après-midi, ce qui peut être un avantahe quand il fait très chaud !

Dröm dröm dröm! Vi testade 5 olika hotell på vår resa till Madeira och detta var BÄST! Otroligt mysigt läge och eftersom det är få personal kändes det som vi hade hela huset för oss själva. Bilderna visar verkligen hur det ser ut på hotellet och stämmer överens med verkligheten. Frukosten serveras i restaurangen och får 10/10. Varje kväll längtade vi efter morgondagens frukost. Det fanns stor variation av färka råvaror och vältillagade smårätter. Massor med frö och nötter till yoghurten och nybakade kakor. Vi fick även spela biljard på kvällarna i restaurangen även fast ingen personal var där. Skulle jag åka tillbaka till Madeira är det här jag kommer bo! Vi gick från Ponto de sol till hotellet och det tog över 1h och var väldigt brant. Därför skulle jag rekommendera att ha bil. Taxi kostade 10 euro från Ponto de sol.

Hemos pasado 4 noches en este maravilloso boutique hotel. Para algunos, puede que sea algo incómodo llegar o que tenga pocos restaurantes/tiendas cerca. Pero la verdad es que lo que ganas es mucho más. Las vistas del paisaje, desde las habitaciones o desde cualquier rincón de este lugar, son maravillosas. El territorio es muy bonito; te encuentras con muchos rincones donde puedes parar, sentarte, tomarte algo, leer un libro, lo que sea. Es muy, muy verde, con muchas plantas y flores, y es muy acogedor. Tiene piscina al aire libre (una pena que no la pudimos usar por el tiempo). El hotel en sí está muy bien cuidado y tiene muy buen gusto. Para los que disfrutan de antigüedades y objetos antiguos, es un sitio perfecto. Tiene estilo, sentido y carácter, y es muy acogedor. Hay muchos detalles por descubrir en cada momento. Y lo que más me ha encantado es el comedor/restaurante: es un placer desayunar en un sitio tan, tan bonito. Al ser 4 noches, me habría gustado que los desayunos fueran más diversos, aunque la comida era rica. El personal fue muy amable y sonriente. Lo recomiendo a todos los que disfrutan de los detalles y la historia; otros lo pueden encontrar "viejo/desgastado"... pero vamos, lo que le da encanto. ¡Muy recomendable!

Ausgesprochen freundliches Personal. Wir haben schon wirklich viele Urlaube gemacht, aber hier noch nie hat uns jemand zum Geburtstag gratuliert. Vielen Dank! Geräumiges Zimmer und gutes Frühstück.Einziges Manko ist das fehlende WLAN auf den Zimmern.Tipp: Wer zum ersten Mal hinfährt sollte der Beschilderung an der Straße und nicht Google Maps folgen, denn der kürzeste Weg ist eng und steil.
