Fantastic B & B

I would have given him 6 stars if that was a thing. Paolo was a fantastic host. The room was lovely and spotless. The view was charming of the square. I found it funny that the breakfast was actually at a place across the square, and not IN the hotel, but not a problem. The only complaint I had was not their fault-the bloody pigeons!! Don’t get the room on the 4th floor if you want to sleep late.LOL. I though someone was murdering a chicken. It was just the pigeons on the roof above my head! Plus the lack of elevator was hard, but par for the course in a country where they walk everywhere. Overall, i would absolutely recommend.

Stylish and quirky.

Lovely room in a central location. This is not a hotel, it’s rooms. There is no one on reception, you have to call them. Once contacted they arrived within 10 mins, and were very helpful. Room 3A was fine & as per the photos. Bathroom was a bit small and A little shabby, and there was no tea/coffee - I think they forgot because there were cups and sugar. As it’s not a hotel, there was no one to ask. Continental breakfast is served in a bar across the square, and was fine. There was someone at the desk in the morning and they were happy to store our bags for a few hours after checkout.

Potential but real issues

Difficult to find and the front of the BnB is actually a design storefront with no markings. We were met by a gentleman who spoke no English. That’s ok but he was not even able to use Google translate. Once that was sorted he gave us 2 tickets for breakfast next door at the coffee shop. Imagine the next AM I go to the coffee shop and the owners speak no English but I was rescued by a student. After 2 phone calls I was told they had no idea what I was talking about. They took pity on me and offered me a cappuccino. It turns out the guy who let us in was bey confused and had no idea what was going on due to illness of coworkers. I have asked for a discount due to the hassle and no breakfast. I am waiting for a reply. Also the room is super small w too much furniture. And the TEAL entrance is down a very dark back alley w a gate and up 3 flights of dark narrow stairs. Be aware of this...

An unexpected treasure of a stay.

What a delight! A 15th century converted tower with all the quirks (and stairs!) you would expect. Beautiful room overlooking the square with the Duomo. Pavia was an unexpected delight and Martina at La Stanza del Cardinale went out of her way to make us comfortable in the B&B and in the city.

Not quite a hotel?

This hotel is located in the historic area of Pavia close to the main square and good restaurants. While we booked a hotel room, our accomodation was actually a 2 bedroom apartment 2 doors down from the hotel proper. The apartment was well appointed and secure. Parking was off site - secure and very cheap. Breakfast was included in our room rate and served in the small foyer of the hotel. This is what I would describe a 'boutique hotel' - just a few rooms and a small but very friendly staff.
