We had fallen in love with the Sands Hotel in an earlier overnight visit (2023). The ocean view from the room was exceptional and the weather was pleasant so we slept with the doors open listening the to ocean and the breeze. Staff was wonderful and meals were good. Folks went above and beyond by being able to make up an ad hoc dinner when the power was out - delicious fish dinner by candlelight. There was a decent number of construction projects underway so it looks like the hotel will only get better.

When we arrived the lady at the reception told us that we would have got an upgrade. First we were happy about that. But when we came into the room we asked ourselves how a room without an upgrade would have been. The room was so dirty - everywhere spider webs, spiders and mosquitoes. In the bathroom the plaster has flaked off the ceiling. In the room there was only one chair. The room was dark because there was a big plant in front of the window. For the breakfast either we had to pay 36 dollars per person, what we didn't do. To have breakfast in the room was nearly impossible, because there was no cutlery and plates at all. The balcony was so small that there only fits one small table and two chairs. And around us was everything under construction. We were looking forward to a comfortable nice place but what we found was a place where we were happy, when we could leave. Regarding the price for it it was absolutely not appropriate. The only good things were the beds - they were comfortable and the dinner in the restaurant with a nice meal an a beautiful view.

Fantastic view even though it rained and at times the sea entrance was misty it was still fascinating. Dinner was superb with the most delicious seafood chowder served. A special treat was being next to a family group who sang beautifully and a man in the group played the guitar. Thank you Omapere Sands, a very enjoyable night's stay. Hi team, we could see you're busy updating things. We were disappointed to find out everything was running at half mast AFTER the booking was paid for and finalised (through Expedia site). There were a couple of things in our room that were the reason for our scores. There was a tissue on the floor behind the barhroom door and the ranchslider couldn't lick properly. We had run away for a break from the farm (important to us - and probably many others you might not be aware of) ... although the kai was yum, it was stink we didn't jnow beforehand (as mentioned above) that the selection would be so limited. The Cafe across the road you recommended at checkin and in your confirmation email was pretty average, with hardly any options yesterday arvo (to the pount we didn't even consider it for breakfast this morning). Also, just for your advantage, i was ready to work through the lust of cocktails last night, and although your bar man was lovely and friendly, even they were average - watery as. Im sorry to be harsh, but we were left feeling really dissapointed. Good luck with the renos
