Montignac is a great village: lively, with good local shops and restaurants, and ideally situated for exploring the Dordogne, with its many sights just a short drive away. The house itself is well located. It’s very central but also quiet. It has good bones and is attractive from the outside, but unfortunately that is where the positives stop.Inside, the house, furniture and décor have been untouched since the 1980s, apart from air-conditioning in the dining room. The facilities are ultra basic and little thoughts were given about what guests might reasonably expect from a holiday rental: WiFi, usable pillows, bedside lamps, enough electrical sockets, sun loungers or even basic mugs, for example. The master bedroom has an old electric rising bed, that doesn’t rise and all the ‘pillows’ are either ultra thick medical cushions to raise legs, or very worn-out pancakes. The large garden and pond could be lovely but are neglected, with overgrown bushes, weeds and dead flowers. The poor fishes swim in a swamp and should be rehoused. There are no basic supplies such as table salt or hand soap, and you pay extra for tea towels, bed linen (which you have to put on yourself) and bath towels. The whole thing is a sad affair. The location is excellent and the village is fantastic. With some small investment, care and consideration for guests, the house could be a gem.As it stands, it’s one I wish we had avoided.
