Trailside Retreat - 2 BR Cabin at Wilson Ranch
Summary:
A two-bedroom cabin tucked into the trees at Mazama's Wilson Ranch, with the Sandy Butte ski trail running along the edge of the property. Sleeps 6 across two king bedrooms and a queen pull-out sofa in the living room. Pine interior with a gas stove and forest views from every window. Step outside the door to ski, bike, or hike straight onto the trail network. Covered rear porch with a propane grill and Adirondack chairs. Dogs welcome.
The Space:
Trailside Retreat sits at the edge of the forest on the Wilson Ranch property, with the Sandy Butte trail passing directly past the cabin in winter for door ski-in ski-out access to the Upper Methow Nordic trail system. In summer the same trails serve mountain biking and hiking. The Methow Community Trail also runs through Wilson Ranch, connecting to the Jacks and River Run trails and the Mazama trailhead hub.
The wood-paneled living room has a fold-out couch (makes up into a queen bed), an easy chair, a dining table for six, a wide-screen TV, wood floors, and a gas stove. Both bedrooms are carpeted, each with a king bed and corner windows looking out into the forest. The galley kitchen has been upgraded with a new large built-in refrigerator-freezer, alongside an electric range with oven, dishwasher, microwave, and pod coffee maker with kettle and toaster. The cabin has a compact bathroom with shower. A small mudroom by the entry has hooks and bench seating for boots and gear.
Outside, a rear porch holds a propane grill and a pair of red Adirondack chairs, with a picnic table among the trees nearby. The cabin makes a comfortable Mazama basecamp for up to six guests.
The Neighborhood:
MAZAMA
Wilson Ranch is located 2 miles (10 minute bike ride) from the Mazama Store and the Methow Trails trailhead (for great hiking, mountain biking and cross-country ski trail options). In addition to the store with its great bakery and grocery, Mazama is home to the Goat’s Beard outdoor store (with mountain bike and fat bike rentals), the Mazama Ski School for cross country ski hire and lessons and the Mazama Public House. Please be aware that the Sandy Butte Bistro at the nearby Freestone Inn is not currently operating, and Jack's Hut may or may not be open on a very limited basis.
NORTH CASCADES NATIONAL PARK
The Wilson Ranch cabins are also conveniently situated for easy access to the North Cascades and the trailheads to many of the Park's world-class hiking trails. It’s under 20 minutes' drive to the Cutthroat Lake trailhead, 25 minutes to Washington Pass and 30 minutes to Maple Pass trailhead. Great for beating the crowds and snagging a trailhead parking spot at peak seasons.
Getting Around:
Getting Here: May to November, from Seattle and the westside, you can drive over State Route 20 and Washington Pass (check WSDOT for closures). Alternate, and winter routes from Seattle are via I90, Snoqualmie Pass and Blewett Pass, or via highway 2 over Stevens Pass (check WSDOT for driving conditions). Combine these routes and you have the scenic Cascade Loop. The nearest major airports are Spokane International Airport at 180 miles (year round) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (190 miles in summer / 260 miles in winter). Regional flights are also available at Pangborn Memorial Airport in Wenatchee located 102 miles away.
Getting Around: Nearest winter trail is the Methow Community Trail. The Mazama Store is 2 miles / 10 minute bike ride. Winthrop is 14 miles / 18 minutes drive.

The cabin is close to the perfect place in the woods for those seeking serviced seclusion. While easy to imagine being miles away from anywhere, the closest decent coffee is mere footsteps away and a fresh-baked croissant, kombucha or caramel confection just a mile, or so, down the road. The property is well-equipped although the kitchen a little compact for people who may want to cook for themselves. The beds were generous and comfortable while the cabin itself was clean and quiet. We struggled to find the place as the GPS we were relying on stopped functioning as we pulled in off the main road. It would have been helpful if we'd printed off the detailed instructions previously provided by the management company.Highly recommened.

Right on the trail
Lovely time with the trail right outside the door. New dishwasher and an Nespresso machine were a nice touch. We’ve come for years and stayed in another cabin. The addition of excellent WiFi was nice. Will come again.

Family gem
We loved our stay. Proximity to the trails, the location amongst neighbors (very private), and the amenities were perfect for our family of 5. We’ll happily visit again.
