We wanted a getaway for Easter and my birthday, so we came here for a mountain retreat and were not disappointed. The setting is amazing, with nature and hiking trails, a fun playground, pond and pedalboat, towering trees and bubbling streams, hammock and swing overlooking the pond, and fire pit with chairs in the backyard. The views from the large windows is wonderful, but for the best view be sure to hike to the top of the ridge (about .5 mile and uphill the whole way; takes 15 min. if in excellent shape, 20-30 if breaks are needed for tired or small legs). Our family (husband, wife, three kids, and two dogs) thoroughly enjoyed the house, which was clean and welcoming (including a basket with S'mores makings—nice touch). We were especially grateful the owners are "dog people" and provided crates, beds/crate pads, and dog bowls so we didn't have to bring those with us, and the fee for bringing dogs was quite modest (much less than we'd have paid to have someone else watch the dogs, and they loved the property as much as we did). If you're looking for a place with a fancy game room or modern movie theater, look elsewhere. This house and property are meant for those who want to experience the best and most beautiful of nature and a clean, comfortable home situated for the best possible view when you must be indoors. We had few issues with finding what we needed in the well-appointed kitchen (although a vegetable peeler and better potato masher would have been appreciated). Unfortunately it rained for an entire day (the only full day of our trip), but we enjoyed poking around the quaint town of Marshall and had a great meal at Bonnie & Clydes. In the evening we decided to go to Hot Springs for a soak in the natural mineral baths, so it was still a lovely day. (If the weather had been better, we would have loved ziplining or rafting just around the corner!) Thank you to the owners for sharing this lovely home so we could make family memories to treasure for a lifetime.
