Pack your clubs and tee off at the Riverside Golf Course (1.5 miles), a picturesque nine-hole, pay-and-play course; or bring your rackets and enjoy a friendly match at the village’s tennis court (1.5 miles) – there’s also a great play area for the kids right beside it. Alternatively, pull on your hiking boots, walk from the door, and climb Wild Boar Fell, or Green Bell, part of the Howgill Fells. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with views over the Lakeland fells and Yorkshire’s Three Peaks.


Step inside this reverse-layout retreat, which is laid out over two floors and a cosy mezzanine. On the ground floor, you’ll discover two bedrooms – a super-king-size and a twin – each with an en-suite bathroom featuring a whirlpool bath. Both bedrooms have zip-and-link beds that can be converted on request. On the first floor, you’ll find an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, where a double-height ceiling and a wood burner set the scene for relaxation. Host a stylish meal at the dining table and then set up the 4k projector and the ‘secret cinema screen’ for movie night. French doors lead onto a balcony, where you can sit and take in the far-reaching country views. The handy mezzanine adds a little extra space – an additional dining table, chairs and a TV – if the kids want to have their own space to socialise in.


Stroll onto the balcony and down the stone steps to discover a lovely courtyard garden – the ideal place to enjoy an al fresco dinner. Private parking for two cars.
