This is a great opportunity to see Portland, which is in a 30-minute drive from Kennebunk. All accommodation options in Portland were superexpensive, so I booked this one, in a town closeby, and did not regret it a bit. It was certainly cheaper to park the car somewhere in Portland (hey, I was able to find a parking spot for five bucks a day (!)) than to book accommodation AND pay for overnight parking in Portland.
One gets two huge rooms in what used to be a doctor’s office plus a fully-equipped kitchen and a bathroom in a Victorian house. I was arriving after nightfall, and it was not easy to see which house exactly was number 18, so it was a sigh of relief to be met by the host on the doorsteps of the house. When the toilet started leaking a bit, the issue was immediately addressed by the host. Since the hosts are local, one can always ask for recommendations on what to see or where to eat. It was a very nice gesture on the host’s part to give a ten-dollar gift card for the local bakery (the food was amazing!). Wifi was super fast. The only problem with my stay was that I am a very light sleeper, and the bedroom windows faced the main street, so I was waking up at about 6 o’clock in the morning by the traffic speeding past the house. Highly recommend a walk in Kennebunk's streets (there is a brochure with the route to follow).
