Such a great stay at a historic building with a long history. The service was excellent. The food was also as excellent. We want to come back again because 1 night is definitely too short, maybe in the spring or autumn.

My stay at Yatsusankan was so amazing. The surrounding town I was quiet in the winter but is full of culture, beauty, and good food. The grounds of the inn itself are serene and beautiful. The baths were so relaxing and extra peaceful thanks to their two outdoor baths. The staff is so kind and service was wonderful at all times. We had to check out early to get back to Tokyo, and the staff provided us with an early breakfast so that we wouldn’t leave hungry. I hope to return again one day.

An absolutely magical experience, Yatusankan blew me away with the level of service and the beauty of the property. It was like staying in a museum--my wide and i remarked several times how much it felt like being inside the movie Spirited Away. We stayed here for a night in a room with a private bathroom and shower. We didn't need it at all because the public bath facilities were so wonderful. We were here on a quiet weekday, so we often had the entire public baths to ourselves. The onsen was incredible - the water extremely clean. The provided dinner and breakfast were elaborate and delicious. Highly recommend!

Absolutely wonderful experience! We arrived late and were unable to contact the ryokan to let them know. We were feeling down because we thought we had missed the traditional dinner. But when we arrived, the ladies of the inn quickly got us checked in and had the kitchen prepare dinner right before it closed. And the traditional Japanese dinner was amazing! I cannot say how much I appreciate the thoughtful service.

I never leave reviews but this was truly unforgettable. We booked the private onsen room on the first floor. Simply incredible, the ultimate ryokan experience. The room, onsen, and views were beautiful. On top of that, the staff were outstanding. The dinner and breakfast in the private dining room were delicious. We were served a spread of local food that was unlike anything we have ever had. Truly the highlight of our first trip to Japan. We hope to return one day.

Like a 5-star

(+) outstanding 5-star service; location: 5-10 mins walk to travel spot; hot springs pools are small but nice: breakfast is not the best but still nice looking. Was impressed since the reception: snack and tea were served upon arrival, more snacks provided in the room. Special thankful to the guy who served us; he even helped us to bring over true car from the parking lot to the entrance after we checked out. Love the stay and no complaints at all! Would love to stay longer and come back if possible.

Probably one of the best stays of my life. The stag was absolutely amazing, from start to finish. The attention to detail is impeccable, whilst not overwhelming. The room was wonderful, and the dinner and breakfast experiences magic. Overall, for the price of what would be a normal room in Tokyo, you get an outstanding experience. Lots of surprises, such as the massage chairs and public baths (all rooms seem to have a private onsen, ours certainly did. Our room was 4 different rooms (dinning area, lounge with large TV, bedroom and kitchenette / sink area) plus the outdoor onsen and shower (the only shower is by the onsen). It was so much better than any hotel we did in Osaka or Kyoto. Absolutely worth visiting for one or two nights.

This place was amazing - a real treat. Recently renovated, we had a room that had it's own private bath which was perfect. My partner went down to the other baths and said they were great too. The dinner and breakfast were 5 stars and the staff were just as amazing too. The view from the room over looked a temple just beyond a stream/river and the town, with views of the mountains surrounding it. Very quiet area with an old town area nearby similar to what you find in Takayama but smaller and not as busy. We drove and our car was parked by their valet and bought back when we left. Apparently there is a shuttle service to the train too.

Easily the best place I stayed in whilst in Japan. It’s a ryokan and yet it has full 5 star hotel features. I chose a room with a private outdoor Onsen bath and kaiseki dinner option. Room was huge (75sq/m) with a separate bedroom, living room and sitting area with a wood burner. I started the fire and sat there for hours in between my private lovely hot onsen. There was also a vast public sitting room with massage chairs overlooking the shrine. Gorgeous. Mealtimes I looked forward to as it was gourmet level Japanese meal - everytime. I could not fault it at all. A big shout to Aki who looked after me - she was an amazing hostess 10/10 perfect. Hida furukawa is still a hidden gem with 2 sake breweries and old edo style street with wooden houses (now shops). This was my perfect stay and I will be back again and again.
