Perched on four wooded acres with private creek access and backed by the Chattahoochee National Forest, The Big Dipper Cabin is a quiet, camp-style escape designed for couples who want to unplug and slow down. Guests love the stillness here — the sound of the creek below, fire-lit evenings, and the feeling of being tucked deep in the woods while still an easy drive to Ellijay and Blue Ridge.

Inside, the cabin is intentionally simple — grounded, warm, and thoughtfully lived-in. Vintage camp character blends with modern comfort, centered around a massive stone fireplace, relaxed seating, and a well-stocked kitchen meant for slow mornings and shared meals. It’s the kind of place where you can just pause - conversation lingers, time softens, and quiet hours are spent padding across wooden floors.

Outside, winter settles in gently. Gather around one of three fireplaces — indoors, on the covered porch, or by the firepit beneath dark, open amber skies. Follow the wooded path down to Tickanetley Creek, where the water moves steadily and quietly. In January and February, guests are sometimes surprised by light snow flurries drifting through the trees — fleeting, beautiful moments that feel almost borrowed.

Whether weather be the frost, you’re sipping coffee on the porch, listening to vinyl by the fire, or ending the night beneath the stars, The Big Dipper invites you to slow your pace and stay awhile — reconnecting with the season, the setting, and each other.

🌲 A Place Set Apart

- Built with reclaimed materials and thoughtfully updated and decorated with thrifted pieces to preserve its original charm
- Wood floors, warm lighting, and vintage camp details throughout
- A wraparound porch with a sofa, fireplace, and soft string lights for lingering evenings

What a great camp! The hostess was very communicative throughout our stay, the cabin was so adorable, clean, and cozy. We were able to bring our 2 dogs with us which was an added bonus. It is very private and it felt like we were in a treehouse. Went on a hike in the national forest which borders the property and found a beautiful waterfall. Great time. So relaxing!

Quiet little cabin

Great little cabin for a couple! It was big enough to not feel cramped but cozy enough to get away and relax. We didn’t spend enough time here with all the activities in the area available - Amicalola Falls, Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, White Water Rafting near Bryson City, SC. Next time we will plan a day of no activities to enjoy more of what the cabin had to offer.
Relaxing morning coffee on the deck.
The sound of rain was the absolute best.

Renew your soul in this comfy cabin

Shinrin-yoku is a form of meditative hiking, and evidence of its benefits is so compelling that writing a prescription for the practice has become standard in Japan. If you want to write an Rx for yourself, make it for The Camp Away! The cabins’ setting is so perfect for R&R that you will not want to go anywhere else. Stock up on groceries, swing by R&A Orchard, then head on over! It’s a little off the beaten path but driving instructions are easy to follow. A bonus of being away from crowded towns is the breathtaking number of visible stars in the sky. And by day, you can take the easy walk down to the creek (a walking stick or trekking pole is recommended) and lose yourself in the forest. You have a porch and a balcony from which to enjoy the view, soak in the sun or feel the breeze. The cabin itself is welcoming and cozy, with charming personality and attention to detail. Despite being away from it all, the wi-fi and TV streaming worked just fine. We cooked all our meals in the kitchen and even enjoyed clean up - the tree view from the kitchen window was positively delightful. This is a perfect getaway and little adventure for couples or families and we will definitely be back

Down time getaway

We had a great stay at Camp Away. Getting in touch with the property manager was a breeze. The cabin was neat and clean and perfect for my husband and I to get away and spend time together. I only have positive things to say. I will add that the cabin is 30 minutes away from anything to do or eat. We knew this when booking. The road there is a little rough but expect that in the mountains. I would recommend getting there before night fall. The property is great for a romantic trip or even a family trip.
