Dollar Rent a Car, most often shortened to Dollar, is a car rental brand that people all over the world are familiar with. The company began in Los Angeles in 1965, under the name Dollar-A-Day-Rent-A-Car. It’s been going from strength to strength since then, and now has 840 locations in North America alone, with a further 1,500 franchises split across 70 countries all over the world. Dollar’s parent company is Hertz, another well-respected name in car rental. As an established brand with a long-standing reputation, Dollar is perfect if you’re looking to rent a car for your vacation. And if you make your booking via the Orbitz website, your Dollar rental car will be ready for you to drive off in as soon as you arrive at your destination. Reserving in advance online can also save you money, and offer you a wider choice of vehicles.
Renting a car from Dollar: FAQs
Reserving your Dollar rental car is as easy as can be. All the same, it’s a good idea to get a handle on the basics first. Here are some FAQs.
How old do you have to be to rent a car with Dollar?
Each country and state has unique rules around car rental ages, but 21 is the regular minimum. Drivers aged under 25 will usually pay more due to a young driver surcharge. Under-25s might also not have the option to reserve some cars and vans. Outside of the US, some branches of Dollar may have an upper age limit, or charge older drivers extra – it’s worth looking into this beforehand.
Which cars can you rent from Dollar?
Dollar has an excellent range of vehicles, covering everything from economy to luxury cars, as well as mini vans, vans, SUVs and trucks. Car selection varies by location, but affordable cars on offer might include the likes of the Chevrolet Spark, while upscale cars might include the Chrysler 300 or similar.
What documents do I need to rent from Dollar?
Car rentals everywhere require a valid driver’s license and a credit card. Some branches do take debit cards, but always check ahead – and keep in mind that additional documentation, such as official proof of address or an airline ticket, may be required. You’ll always have to show your passport for Dollar car rental overseas, and an international driving permit is sometimes needed too.
