Farol, by Vinifera Homes
Summary:
“The view was jaw dropping—waves stretching forever, sunsets that stopped us in our tracks. Perfect for our family getaway!” – Cathy
Welcome to Farol, a coastal retreat perched high up Dillon Beach where time slows down. From the Portuguese word for lighthouse, Farol is your beacon of calm—a place to reset, & take in views so sweeping they feel infinite. Mins away from the sand but a world away from the rush, this home offers front-row seats to whitewater surf & golden sunsets of the Pacific.
Farol sits like a lighthouse on the hilltop, guiding you toward peace, light, and wide-open horizons. Rustic in spirit yet designed for comfort, it’s a house made for connection, whether you’re cooking together in the open kitchen, sharing stories by the fire, or watching the waves roll in from the deck.
With room for up to 12 guests across six serene bedrooms and five full baths, Farol is ideal for large families, groups of friends, or anyone craving inspiration from nature’s grandeur. Nearly every space in the home frames a piece of the coastline, Tomales Bay, Point Reyes, and the endless blue of the Pacific.
Step outside to the expansive deck and breathe in the ocean air. Fire up the BBQ grill, pour a glass of wine, and settle into a front-row seat for sunset. At night, stars stretch across the dark sky while the sound of waves below becomes the soundtrack to your stay.
Inside, warm wood tones and sweeping windows create a sense of calm and wonder. The open living and dining area centers around the ocean view—whether you’re sipping coffee at sunrise or watching the last light fade behind Point Reyes, the horizon always takes the lead.
The chef’s kitchen is built for entertaining, with high-end appliances like the Thermador touch-activated 5-burner stove, and a large granite island that invites everyone to gather around. Cook, laugh, and watch the waves from every angle.
Each bedroom offers a quiet retreat, with plush bedding, soft light, and the soothing rhythm of the sea nearby. The bathrooms are spacious and spa-like—two with jetted tubs perfect for unwinding after a day of sand and salt air.
“The views are just as promised on the website description. The place is big and roomy with lots of comfortable beds and a place for everyone to hang out!” - Cheryl
Just over an hour north of San Francisco Bay Area attractions and only a few minutes from the beach, Farol offers easy access to a one-mile stretch of golden sand where you can surf, stroll, or wander among tide pools at low tide. Spend your mornings hiking along the bluffs of Point Reyes National Seashore (about 25 minutes away), your afternoons kayaking or power boating in Tomales Bay (a 15-minute drive), and your evenings watching whales crest the horizon from the deck.
Discover San Francisco’s best artisan chocolates on a three-hour tasting tour, explore Hayes Valley’s top foodie spots with local cheeses, breads, and wines, enjoy wine and chocolate pairings in downtown wine bars, or savor Napa Valley’s renowned food and wine on a guided tour.
Experience the best of Napa Valley with the Gourmet Napa Tour, sampling local food and wine as you tour downtown Napa and savor the region’s celebrated flavors.
If you’re up for a round of golf, the beautiful Links at Bodega Harbour is just 25 minutes south. And when it’s time to unwind, Sonoma’s world-class wineries are less than an hour away—close enough for a scenic day trip, but far enough to feel completely away from it all.
Farol isn’t just a name, it’s a reflection of what this home represents. Like a lighthouse, it stands above the waves, offering light, perspective, and peace. Wonderful property, epic view. Really enjoyed our stay. Great spot if you want to feel a bit "off the grid."Bonus: hike up to the main street, turn left, head to the end of the road. Walk through the pedestrian gate, ignore the cattle (they'll ignore you) and walk along the cliffs. About as pretty and isolated of a view as you can get in California.Communication was fantastic the whole way.Highly recommend!

We had an amazing time at the property. The views cannot be beat, and we loved sitting out on the deck in the morning with our cups of coffee, and then back again in the evening with a glass of wine. So peaceful. We would love to visit again!

We are a family of mostly older adults who stayed over Christmas. We enjoyed the ocean views from 49 Kona Lane and the local walks at Dillon Beach. The high-ceilinged main room is lovely, the beds are comfortable, and the kitchen is well-stocked. Harman was also an empathetic and responsive host. However, the house has operational shortcomings that future guests should know:Furniture: The layout is poor for socializing. The dining table only has benches (no backs), which was difficult for the older members of our group. The living room has just one linear couch bolted to the floor and zero armchairs. You cannot face each other to talk, and the TV is at an awkward angle. No Manual: The house lacks a user guide. We were left guessing how to control the heat, where to put trash/recycling, and how to use the stove.Maintenance: Our main issue was a strong smell in the master bedroom that worsened with the heavy rain. Harman sent help immediately to check for gas or mold, but the source wasn't found, and the strong smell made the room unusable.Location: Dillon Beach and the surrounding environment is beautiful but isolated. It is a 30 minute drive to groceries on narrow, unlit roads.Summary: A scenic location with a helpful host, but the house requires better seating, a manual, and maintenance to be truly comfortable.

Amazing views and well organized house for 10 adults. In general, it is an amazing set up for a big family gathering! We used all six bedrooms and would have used all 5 bathrooms if the one shared bath/shower had been functional (no water). Someone did come out and let us know it could not be fixed and and said "there are other showers in the house."This house has the potential to be truly outstanding with a little more attention to detail. We pointed out a few things that were malfunctioning or broken and were assured they'd be fixed after our stay. We suspect the house is not always used to capacity. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home - we had a great time.

Beautiful Home but Lacks some Basic Comforts
This was our second stay at the Farol
House with our extended family, our first stay being 2 years ago. The views are spectacular and the pictures do the house justice quite well - it is a beautiful home but
lacks some general functionality for us. During our first stay, we passed off the small things but on the second stay, there were several of the same issues present. In general, when we asked about anything during both of our stays, we were mostly met with excuses, apathy, or an “I’ll get back to you” but no follow up. The main issue for us were the beds - they are absolutely beautiful but several of the mattresses are terrible. One bed slumped so much to the side that our family members had to stack towels under it to avoid feeling like they were going to roll out. Screens on the windows/doors would make the stay so much more comfortable, especially when it’s warm in the house with no AC or fans - tons of moths and bees get in and the raccoons get too curious and close at night. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but we likely will not return to this beautiful home due to high price tag and somewhat small, but impactful issues.

Teacher retreat
10 wonderful friends in education (and retired) had a fantastic weekend despite crazy weather..we were caught in more than one rainstorm! The house was fabulous..bedrooms and bathrooms aplenty. We spent a lot of time at the table playing cards and games. Walking to the beach and back was certainly a great workout, as the house is almost to the top of the hill. Great workout AND fantastic views. We’ve stayed at several different Dillon Beach homes, and I don’t remember any home with such a vast view. The deer were adorable..many came into our yard and stayed too. We all absolutely loved our weekend.

Beautiful View
The house is beautiful, with a stocked kitchen and a huge dining table for group dinners. We enjoyed the view while cooking and enjoyed walks down to the beach.
The property manager was VERY unfriendly in her communications even before we checked in. We were a group of 12 with 6 cars, I asked her where we could park an additional car (the maximum number of cars allowed is 5), and she replied after 2 days with a very unfriendly and unhelpful tone.
When we arrived the house was so hot and the only window we could open was the door to the deck. All the other windows upstairs the cranks have been removed so you can't open them.
Also, we picked this house because of the no-pet policy, we had a few people who were allergic to pets, and we found pet hair in one of the bedrooms. I was not inclined to contact the unfriendly property manager for any of these issues.
If the issues above are improved, I would recommend the house and would stay here again.

Good location and nice beds but not a good place to hang out
The house has superb views and comfortable beds but not much else to recommend it
The house has generally dark interiors partly offset by great views from some rooms.
Particularly annoying was the absence of drawers or closets.
There were no usable hall closets and the two bedrooms that had closets were already full of the owner’s household stuff.
As to drawers or cabinets we found them either absent or already full.
The living room was small and dark adjoining a dining area with a large window with a magnificent view but only long benches for seating.
One result was that our eight person group could not dine that comfortably because of the long benches with limited clearance on either side to step over the bench
The other and worse effect is that the only seating in the living room was a long linear couch sectional which barely held our group and much discouraged good conversation.
Finally the host book was unfriendly and misleading
It was full of "don'ts" with threats to withhold deposit. It specifically referenced beach access within the community only to have us learn that "renters" could not get passes to the private beach which was really at odds with the numerous references to the beach.
All in all,it was quite disappointing and not at all like our first VRBO experience in Mammoth in 2021. This is not up to the standard I would hope to find at this price level from VRBO.
I do hope you share this with the host.

We loved the house. The rooms were great and the view phenomenal!! However, a couple doors were sticky and hard to close. Upstairs shower faucet dripped. We did have a problem with the refrigerator freezing our produce. It was on 32 and we changed it back to 37. Also-the first room downstairs on the left the lock was not working…
Would love to come again.

Group Tour
We were a tour group with 10 people and the house was perfect. It's hard to find 6 bedroom / 5 bath properties, so this was great. The kitchen had all the tools and equipment needed for our chef to prepare meals. The large grill was nice, as was the fireplace. We saw lots of deer, raccoons and rabbits in the ravine.

Excellent Stay!
Our family of 10 enjoyed a wonderful stay. From ages 2-86, all were comfortable and happy. The pictures do not do this place justice - the views are phenomenal and the house was absolutely gorgeous. The house and kitchen are fully stocked with everything you could need. We love to cook and had everything we could possible need (and more)! I am very particular about cleanliness and this house was by far one of the cleanest I’ve stayed in, which was very much appreciated. We will definitely be staying here again!

Beautiful views!
Our stay was very nice! The house was perfect for our family. Very well stocked, with exception of paper towels...which we purchased at the general store. House was clean and presentable. We enjoyed our stay. We did however have a small issue and John (property manager) handled in a very professional and kind manner. He is definitely a very good property manager with the skills to attend to any necessary corrections.
I highly recommend this location.

Amazing views
Overall great stay! The property was super clean and check-in process was easy. Linda was very responsive and easy to communicate with before we arrived. Place was well stocked, internet was great, views were amazing and looked like the pics. Kids loved seeing the deer right outside the door and we loved being so close to the beach.
We had a group of 8 adults and 3 kids. We had enough bedrooms and bathrooms and loved the privacy. Our only complaint was the common area wasn't great for all of us to hang out together - some of us were in the kitchen and some on the couch. The TV is mounted a little high so hard to see from the side wall. The house felt a little smaller than the pics but the beautiful views, proximity to beach, and peacefulness we felt outweighed these things.

Excellent location, property and host
The view is fantastic. The property is clean inside and outside. Very large functional kitchen and all the pots, pans utensils, plates, coffee maker, BBQ etc necessary to hose great in house meals. Dining table overlooking the ocean and beach while eating is a great plus. Many separate bedrooms with beds, most with attached bathrooms.
When you get tired of cooking and entertaining guests, there are many board & card games available to choose from.
The presence of many deer and large birds flying nearby adds to the great views of this place.

The view is amazing. It’s also the most stocked rental I’ve ever been in. We loved the fireplace and we’re disappointed we never got to use it but as chilly as it was in the mornings it was too warm in the evenings after the beautiful sunsets.
