Super 8 by Wyndham Cresco IA

The staff was friendly and responsive. For the most part, I didn't see or hear other guests. While some of the furniture is run down, the bed and pillows were comfortable. The weather went from cold at night to hot in the day, and it was good to have a responsive thermostat on the heating/air conditioning unit. I would have appreciated more water pressure from the shower and hotter water from the sink, but these were minor inconviences. The slow WiFi was problematic, especially in an area where cellular coverage is lacking; I was unable to make/receive video calls or stream video on my laptop.

Room was spacious. Bed was comfortable. There were 3-4 staff people on hand at all times from what I could tell. Quiet. Efficient check in/out. Good breakfast.

Cresco has two motels. This one is newer. The rate was reasonable. The room was clean and staff was friendly. I’d stay there again.

I only used the motel for showering and sleeping. Didn't take advantage of the breakfast, so can't comment on it. The room was comfortable, though the halogen lights outside the second floor rooms created a bright halo around the blackout curtains that was annoying the first couple nights of my stay. If there were other occupants, I never heard them, and housekeeping did a decent job of keeping the room clean (though the daily tip envelopes seemed a bit like overkill; I typically tip the cleaning staff at checkout). The water pressure on the shower was decent, and the free shampoo and conditioner were welcome. Appreciated the alarm clock that had 2 USB charging ports.

We stayed there the last weekend in September. There were no less expensive options in Decorah, our preferred city, but Cresco is only a 20 minute drive away. We checked in late and they purposely put us in a room close to the lobby on the first floor so we didn't have far to go since it was late. The bed was comfortable, better than many other more expensive hotels. We always appreciate the Super 8 complimentary breakfast in the morning. We would stay there again.

you're probably not there except for a good reason. The town is full of good, hard-working people, but it doesn't qualify as a tourist mecca. The Super 8 staff was extremely helpful when I needed help and kept their distance when I just wanted to be left alone. The place is convenient, surprisingly quiet and reasonably priced. I recommend it, unless you need extreme luxury. But if you want that, you're not going to be in Cresco anyway.

is not the most exciting place. I just needed a place to hang out for two days and nights. For that, this motel was perfect. The nearby Chinese restaurant was surprisingly good as well (I live in San Francisco, so I know good Chinese food). The staff is friendly and didn't bother me. Sometimes you just need to be alone to write. Or watch Walking Dead.
