I have stayed here 6 times over the last 3 months. All for long weekends, 4 night stays. 1st visit = leaky roof in suite/room 216 & the 2nd floor starwell. It was absolutely SOAKING! I reported it and moved rooms. A member of staff took it personnally and followed me around eye balling me for the remainder of my stay. He was extremely hostile. 2nd visit = 1 bedroom cottage, a rat/squirel had eaten through the exterior wall and was in the kitchen attempting to get in to the bedroom at 2am. I reported it and was moved rooms. 3rd, 4th, & 5th visits = 2 bedroom cottage, amazing! The best visits I'd had. 6th visit = 2 bedroom cottage, 5 night stay. The room cleaning staff were reluctant to clean my room? I mentioned it time and time again to the reception and it felt like cleaning my room was an inconvenience? To the extent I walked in to the cottage on day 3 and the cleaner had done NOTHING except place 3 large towels and a bag of hot drink ingredients on the coffee table? It wasn't the best experience. Since my last stay I have decided I will no longer be staying at the hotel, for as much as the hotel has a lot of potential I don't want the headache of requesting the simple things that should be there.
Unfinished / poor finish on the decorating of the rooms.
These scratches are from the rat/squirel

Great Gym and swimming pool, staff - polite but not very good, lift not working(a pain if your on the 2nd floor, and your of some years, and no staff to help you with your bags), just an old tired place, having a re- vamp, but not ready yet. Room was nice, but the clears are not very good. Could be so much better - so much potential

Room wasnt available at check in, due to still being cleaned. After 30 minutes we was able to check in to find that our room had not been cleaned. It was smelly, dirty and dusty. Went to reception and complained we then waited another 45 minutes to be able to get into our room as there was no room available for a room change. The spa access didnt go very smoothly either there was not one part of the spa that was relaxing. It was noisy, broken or not working. Even meal was then another disappointment. The food arrived pink in colour and definitely under cooked. We also had massages booked and when arrived 15 minutes before our time slot we was told they could not fit us in. Treatment was already paid for. We are currently waiting for a refund to be authorised on the spa treatments but as for the room. That was just a waste of money and a complete disappointment

First time staying at this hotel. We booked for an anniversary weekend for 3 nights. Staff are so friendly and courteous, from reception to the bar and the spa area. The foyer as you walk in is so beautiful, with the hanging lights and grandeur. It’s kept very clean and tidy every day. There’s a bar area up the steps from foyer where you’ll find comfy sofas and big chairs to lounge in, this was such a nice area to sit and have pre-drinks before heading to the restaurant for evening meal. During the day you can sit with a good book and enjoy the comings and goings of the hotel. There is soft music playing all the time which just adds to the ambience. We had such a lovely relaxing break. Spa We booked the couples day at the spa which included massage, Thermal spa experience and afternoon tea - this was sublime. Definitely recommend doing this if you can. Afternoon tea, especially, was a lovely treat and so tasty. Special thanks to Beth, on spa reception who went above and beyond for us during our time at the spa. There were a few hiccups but all dealt with promptly and professionally. The rooms We booked a superior room, was really lovely with the addition of small table and armchair to the side of the bed. Overall, we had such a lovely few days and big thanks to all the members of staff who served with a smile and made us feel very comfortable. Highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a relaxing stay with spa and treatments. Thank you

Absolute joke of a place. No wine except Tesco, room overlooks a skip, fire alarms went off in middle of night (reviews suggest this is a regular occurrence) and the spa...... I have no words. Worse than my local leisure centre. Avoid!

The cottage’s are quaint and quiet. They have been renovated but essential features are missing. No plug sockets next to the bed, no ambient lights or bedside lights just very bright downlights in the ceiling. Toilet mounted to close to the wall leaving not enough room to sit comfortably and ice cold floors. Overall I enjoyed the hotel, will definitely stay there again.

Very shoddy

The door was damaged and wouldn’t lock. We changed rooms because of this. We were given an upgrade. Well the kettle didn’t work the walls had marks all over them. A really shoddy room. I won’t be staying in this hotel again which is a shame because it’s a lovely location.

Worst experience, most rude receiptionist

Honestly the worst experience I have ever had ! I work away a lot and stay in hotels every week. I was checking in after 18:00 and the receiptionist told me that my room was not ready, by then I have finished 10 hours of work and wanted to take a shower beofre I head to my next job. I was at receiption for a full hour, he asked me to pay for my room, I told him I paid already, he said ok pay half again, I refused and showed him proof that I have paid already, he said, word for word: ''we can take money out of your account without permission''. I have asked for another room that is ready, he kept making excuses, he was raising his voice at me and cuts me off everytime I speak, he gave me a look like he was about to hit me. After the unecessary converstaion and wasting valuable time, he found out that I have actually paid the amount in full and gave me my key. I then went to my room and yes you guessed it, the key wasn't working. I had to go downstairs again and have a new key coded. Never again !! There is a Ramada not far from there that I have stayed in previously, and it is absolutely fine and is withing the price range.
