With its generous and extraordinarily pleasant hosts, this property would be one of the best in the area only if the rooms were stripped of their poor-man’s transition to modernity, restored to their past glory, and equipped with an electric kettle!!

Good location right in the heart of Chinon. Parking close by and within easy walking distance of shops bars and restaurants. Close to the river and easy to find. The rooms are dated and in need of some tlc. Be careful with the showers as when our shower door was opened you couldn't get to the cold tap so burnt myself trying to get the right temperature.

Nice front desk person. Room very clean but extra small. Not even the room to Open one bag on the floor. No internet working in the bedroom. Impossible to get water at the right temperature in the shower, mixer does not work, you have to choose burning or cold! Also no insulation, we heard the neighbor toilet and dog barking on same floor. I do not believe this deserves 3 stars. On the positive side, great location

A convenient location for a stay in Chinon. The property is right in the heart of the town. On site restaurant, but lots of bars and restaurants very close by. The rooms are a bit small and basic, so if your looking for luxury this is not the hotel for you. If your looking for a good price and location and don't spend time in your room then it's OK.

Hotel is in a good location with surprisingly short walks to the key sights. Parking opposite. Before market day advised by staff to move the car to a different section of the car park. Room adequate and clean. Fan to keep the room cool. Food in the restaurant OK. Pleasant to dine/drink on the terrace opposite. Only tried breakfast on day 1 and decided on day 2 to try elsewhere.

this is a nice hotel, clean, good breakfast. In the center of Chinon. However room was quite small and it was on the second floor (which is really the third) where we had to lug our luggage to, as there is no elevator. Good for young people on a budget.

Nice hotel

Very welcoming hotel. The staff was warm and friendly and the rooms are clean. It’s in an excellent location with a good restaurant next door, pharmacy on the corner, post office a few doors down walking distance to all of the sights and and free parking across the street. The breakfast was good value also.

Good hotel if you only want a place to sleep in a good area. There is a big parking in gront od the hotel as well. We enjoyed it.

Lovely quiet hotel

Hotel is well situated in Chinon. You can walk anywhere from there. Plenty of restaurants, cafés, shops Parking is on the town main square just opposite the hotel.

Golden Lion has a warm glow.

Six of us stayed at Le Lion d'Or. We had two rooms both of which were spacious and comfortable. One room was recently renovated while the other looked tired and in need of renovation. So it was quite a difference between the two in appearance. Yet both had comfortable beds. There was also a large free parking lot in front of the hotel which was convenient unlike some other properties. This is in France and unfortunately our French was minimal though so was most of the staff's English. However, they were all friendly and extremely accommodating. This is a nice little hotel and would recommend it to friends. My only complaint is there was no elevator and one of our party could have used one. Be aware if your party has mobility issues.

Decent hotel

We booked this place at the last minute upon arrival in town. Hotel is 134 years old. Rooms are tiny but clean. Front desk personnel was friendly and helpful (translated a phone call in French for us with another hotel.). Breakfast was included and very good. Close to all the attractions and restaurants.

Perfect stop for an overnight stay in Chinon.Great location very near to the river and free parking just outside. Very good value and would definitely stay again. Late checkin and check out til midday also useful.

Great location in lovely town

The location of the hotel was excellent for exploring Chinon. There is a large free carpark directly opposite the hotel, so no problem with car-parking. Our room was lovely and clean, with a comfy bed which was all we required as we were out every day and evening. We were in room 8 which we believe was located above the kitchen area. The hotel 'woke up' at approx 6.30 am and there was plenty of noise from this time onwards. As most rooms appeared to surround a courtyard area, we suspect that most occupants would be aware of any noise, especially as there was no air conditioning and it was warm, so necessary to sleep with the window open. The hotel information suggests that there is soundproofing between rooms, but the occupant next door was fairly audible on the odd occasion. We did however thoroughly enjoy our stay and we would return as we like a clean functional room which this was. We just wouldn't attempt to have a sleep in!!
