Lovely old pub right next to Chelmsford rail and bus stations. Very welcoming bar staff. Rooms are really nicely decorated with tea and coffee making and separate secure access. Really great value and centrally located for all Chelmsford has to offer.

The rooms are above the back of the pub - you enter via the stairs from the car park. Parking is. It provided by the pub-itā€™s by the council and watch out - if you park overnight, you have to be out of the car park by 8 AM. Otherwise you will get a fine! The room was small, but clean and well presented.

As a solo traveler, I can honestly say I felt safe and comfortable at The Ship. Itā€™s so well placed for getting to the station, restaurants and shopping in Chelmsford. The room was bijou but completely adequate for a short stay.

The bed sheets was stained and I found a big black hair in my bed there was no heating and the room was freezing I did ask about putting the heating on but it did not happen I felt uneasy with the the entrance to the rooms being a aluminium staircase to the rooms which was open to the public car park (no door on ) and room was not refreshed the next day pup food was good and staff was nice

The Ship Chelmford

The room was clean and fresh and we had a good nights sleep. We didnā€™t eat at the hotel. Car parking was a problem as they donā€™t have a car park of their own, only a council one which you could only pay for until 5am the next day.

I had a really pleasant stay at The Ship. The room was compact but spotless and well-organised, with a comfy single bed, en-suite bathroom, TV, and a side cabinet stocked with tea, coffee, and biscuitsā€”such a thoughtful touch. It had been a long time since Iā€™d slept in a single bed, but it was surprisingly comfortable and perfect for a good nightā€™s rest. Iā€™d definitely stay again and would recommend it to other travellers looking for a clean, cosy spot with all the essentials.

Clean comfortable room. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food in pub was discounted slightly for guests. There were a fair few stairs and it was a tad noisy outside, however it suited our overnight stay and we would stay there again.
