Rooms at the front are on a busy road on a corner. Windows open mean noisy! This has the attraction of being an old building but, yes, it’s an old building.

The main areas downstairs were good The corridors/stairs to the bedrooms were poor and could do with refurbishing. Staff were great throughout We had the unfortunate experience of the fire alarms going off in the middle of the night and all fire exits were clear and accessible

Free parking facility not large enough to accommodate all guests, definitely first come first served. Premium room fairly standard. Food pub style in restaurant. That said the sraff were very friendly and helpful.

When we entered to the room, the room smelled like a kitchen! All the smell of used oil in the restaurants around hotel, was coming to our room. No air conditioning. The ceiling had a leak and moldy. The parking was a mess. Had a door and password( not a self parking)

Terrible check-in. After a 3 hr journey I waited for approx 10mins at 'Reception' (a computer at the bar!) just wanting to find out where the hotel car-park was while a staff member had a long, long, discussion on the phone about a booking and my friend had pulled in to a lay-by outside. Only 2 staff members on duty, the other staff member was new & had no idea about the car park. Extremely frustrating after a long drive and the staff member just ignored me. We eventually had a code to enter the padlocked car park and a customer actually showed me how to find the car park as he said we would never find it. Found car-park, opened padlock with code, pulled back heavy door, only to find the car park was full. What a waste of time! Found parking easily in nearby public car park. Hotel and room were clean, great breakfast (although fried egg was hard) with lots of choice and good quality and great location. Hotel not as it looked in photo's (not olde-worlde as we had thought. Quite basic, pub-like. Good quality products in room and soft towels. Ask for back/side room, my friend was in a noisy room at the front. Manager & staff very friendly and efficient (apart from check-in). Would stay again

People need to realise this is an old building therefore decor and some areas reflect this. This in no way hindered our stay. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Better directions for hotel car park needed as it is at the rear of property .

The staff were excellent, service was swift and attentive. The food was good. Plenty of locals using the bar and restaurant which is always a good sign. The public areas (restaurant, bar etc.) were in fine order. The room (8) was very tired; flaking paint throughout, bathroom walls and ceiling could all have done with a thorough clean (and repainting); Mendip water, I know, is very hard and the tap needed descaling badly. There were a lot of stairs.

Great hotel I've used before and will do so again. Unfortunately only a family room was available so cost more than my usual and was in excess of requirements. My fault for booking at last minute! I would say, however, this would be amazing for a family with lots of space.

The staff were cheerful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. Wayne was lovely, cheerful, a real character! The building is very old, so to get to our room, it was up and down stairs, along corridors, really quaint, but not for someone with limited mobility. - I’m sure you can request a room with easier access. The room itself was ‘small but perfectly formed’, it did what it was supposed to! The paint was peeling off in the bathroom, but it was clean and well stocked with all the toiletries you need. Tea & coffee making facilities were excellent, selection of teas, and coffee bags! Big tick form us there! We ate in the pub too, lovely freshly cooked food, served promptly, and was hot! Breakfast was delicious, selection of cereals, pastries spreads fruit juice etc. lovely strong coffee, and served by the lovely Wayne, what more could we ask for! The car park was ‘tight’ but again, free, - I was just pleased my husband was driving! Overall we had a lovely stay, and would go back again in a jiffy. Thank you everyone! X

Amazing staff, nice food and a great bar. Sadly the rooms are in drastic need of an upgrade. Blind doesn’t open or close (held up by string), bathroom not up to scratch (but was clean) and the walls are in drastic need of a repaint.

Central and good value for money

Very central location but only 15 parking spaces for 29 rooms. The hotel is a challenge if you have mobility issues, lots of steps. Room a little tired but ok for the money. The cooked breakfast was excellent and service was great.
