A blissful stay!
The property is located outside of town and is peaceful and quiet. It was comfortable and spotless, with everything we needed. The backyard is filled out birdfeeders, so we were serenaded with birdsong all day. We saw javalina, deer, and a glimpse of a camel! It was magical.

Stunning and cozy
The suite itself is cute, cozy, and stylish; but what really blew us away was the views. Apart from being nestled up close to the mountains, we woke up everyday with birds at our windows and went to sleep each night with the most amazing view of the night sky. Alpine was perfect for our trip to Big Bend. Being able to take advantage of the cheap gas before heading into the park for the day was a big plus, and there are lots of unique local shops close by.

Bird central
We loved staying here after camping in the Davis Mountains. We saw dozens of bird species, javelina, deer and glimpses of the neighbor's camel and kangaroos which all seem to be in excellent care. The bird feeders and bird baths were filled daily and the grounds were absolutely beautiful with amazing views of the mountains and night sky. We will be back.

Amazing Stay for Bird/Nature Lovers!
From the moment we drove down the quiet lane leading to the property, we knew we were in for a stay of a lifetime. This place is truly a birdwatcher’s dream come true! Within minutes of arriving, we spotted Scaled Quail right outside our window, Yellow-rumped Warblers feeding just a few feet away, and Black-chinned Hummingbirds buzzing all around us. It was pure magic. Our hosts were incredibly welcoming and helpful — it was a delight chatting with them and getting their local insights and tips. Their kindness really added to the warmth and charm of our experience. The room itself exceeded all expectations: a comfy bed with a view of multiple bird feeders (constantly bustling with feathered visitors!), a spacious and well-stocked kitchen, fast internet, plenty of towels — everything we could possibly need. We prefer cooking our own meals, and the large kitchen and ample counter space made that easy and enjoyable.Compared to a standard hotel room, this space felt luxurious — big, open, and thoughtfully arranged. We never felt cramped, and the peaceful setting made it easy to relax and unwind. My husband and I would return in a heartbeat. If you love birdwatching, nature, or simply a quiet retreat, this is the place. Plus, it’s an ideal base for exploring nearby eBird Hotspots — we tallied over 100 bird species in just three days, with most drives being 30 minutes or less.To sum it up: clean, peaceful, spacious, and perfectly located on the way to Big Bend. We highly rec

Spur of the Moment Trip to West Texas
My husband and I were trying to plan a trip to see our daughter and son and our grandkids down in the Austin area and Victoria, Texas. Their schedules were so busy that we decided on the spur of the moment to take a trip to our favorite places in Texas. That includes Alpine, Fort Davis, and Big Bend National Park.We wanted to be centralized so I went on VRBO and found “A Far West Nest” in Alpine. The price and location were amazing. We had all the amenities that we needed. And the views were spectacular!! If you’re into birding, there is no better location that we have stayed. But my husband and I love hiking. We spent 3 days hiking in Big Bend National Park, Davis Mountain State Park, and Davis Mountain preserve, and we came back to our “Nest” with everything we needed. To have a facility with a full kitchen, WiFi, television, full bath, privacy, and central to everything is a rarity! There is no doubt we will stay at our Far West Nest again!.

Great, tranquil location
I came in for a class reunion from the city. I loved being so immersed in a natural setting. It was quiet and it felt private.
Only thing Id mention is at night when backing out because it is really dark, I couldn’t tell when to turn…perhaps a reflector you could see from your rearview. (I drive a car without back up camera)

A wildlife lover's desert paradise...
...from hand feeding deer, to viewing several species of birds including javelina and grey fox sightings right near the property. If you look close enough to the south at Wasserman Ranch, you might catch a glimpse of one of their camels!!
The house was clean, well organized, and very well decorated. We'd recommend this location to anyone that wants to be just outside of town in the peace and quiet of Sunny Glen.
The communication with the property manager was fantastic throughout our stay.

Dark sky perfection
Perfect little spot to relax. Gorgeous mountain views. Quiet and secluded, birds set the background music, modern amenities, comfortable bed and great WIFI. Strong a/c makes it easy to hide from the August heat and nights are dark and quiet. Close enough to town to enjoy the Alpine experience but far enough from town to enjoy the peace of the outdoors.

Enjoyed our stay at the far west nest
So happy we found this place! Changed plans to attend the star party at the McDonald Observatory so needed a place to respite after 5 days in 4 national parks. April’s rental in Alpine was perfect! Spent the morning driving out of Big Bend, wandering the cute downtown Alpine shops and galleries, and visiting the Museum of the Big Bend (they had an Andy Warhol exhibit which was fabulous). Spent the afternoon at April’s place enjoying the beautiful view, yard full of birds, napping, and doing laundry. Having a washer and dryer right in the room was so much better than spending 2 hours at a laundrymat! The room was easy to find on a paved road, clean, well stocked, had an easy to adjust thermostat, comfortable queen bed, good WiFi, hot shower with good water pressure, and soft towels. The room got very bright when the sun came up so maybe bring an eye mask if that bothers you. The cute bird theme with some birding books to look through were a nice touch. Also, the drive from McDonald Observatory at midnight in dark sky country was slower than the trip there (due to the deer on the sides of roads), but not a problem with the reflectors on the roads. Highly recommend this place!

• BREATHTAKING VIEWS • CLEAN • HOMEY •
My husband and I took our 7 month old to explore the West Texas desert for our first family vacation, and it did not disappoint. The house is nestled in the mountains about 10 minutes outside of Alpine, and every direction you look, you’re surrounded by the gorgeous views. One evening we got to watch a massive mule deer from only 30 yards away. The rental was equipped with everything you need to feel right at home. The owners set out a pack and play with clean sheets for our little one. The TV was a smart TV with access to Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, cable tv, etc. The bed was comfy, and the house was SO CLEAN. The hosts were prompt in their responses. We really hit the jackpot with this rental, and we will be back!
