Design House in Akureyri – Private Hot Tub, Sea & Mountain Views, 2 bathrooms
There are places you stay, and places you remember. Hyrnuland 1 was built to be the second kind.
This newly completed villa sits in a quiet enclave on the mountainside above Akureyri, with sweeping views over the mountains and Eyjafjörður — Iceland's longest fjord. The interior was designed and furnished without compromise: a house for travelers who choose quality over quantity, in a location that offers both wilderness and world-class convenience.
The private hot tub faces the fjord, and on clear winter nights the northern lights sometimes appear directly overhead.
Hlíðarfjall's ski lifts are a 4 minute drive from the door; in summer the same slopes become hiking and mountain-biking country under the midnight sun. Whale watching, golf on one of the world's northernmost 18-hole courses, Goðafoss and Lake Mývatn are all within easy reach.
THE HOUSE: Three tranquil bedrooms, each with a queen bed, sleep six — and two full bathrooms mean no one waits. The kitchen is fully equipped for proper dinners, the living spaces are bright and generous, and practical luxuries (washer, dryer, underfloor heating, air conditioning, fast WiFi, quality linens) are simply there, the way they should be. Your morning espresso is covered too: a Nespresso machine with a complimentary set of capsules welcomes every stay.
THE WATER: One thing first-time visitors never expect — the tap water in Akureyri is pure Icelandic mountain water, colder and cleaner than anything sold in bottles. Drink straight from the tap; it's one of the quiet luxuries of the North.
Rarely does one address combine this much: 4 minutes to skiing, 5 minutes to Akureyri's restaurants and culture, 12 minutes to the airport — and complete peace when you close the door.
Hyrnuland 1 is not an investment property — it's our family's own retreat. We're a family of five who come here to ski Hlíðarfjall and roam the mountains and bike in the woods. We furnished and designed the interior entirely for ourselves: the furniture, the beds, the position of the hot tub — all chosen for our own comfort first. That's exactly why guests feel it too.
We deliberately host fewer guests and keep the house immaculate. If you're looking for the cheapest bed in Akureyri, this isn't it. If you're looking for one of the best , welcome.
The vacation home is air-conditioned and features a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a patio. There's space to spread out with 3 bedrooms and a dining area. Other standard amenities include a washing machine, a coffee maker, and an ironing board.
