When it comes to luxury resorts in the Middle East, Dubai seems to garner all the attention. But the city of flashy cars, mega malls and shiny new skyscrapers isn’t necessarily for everyone. For those desiring a different kind of luxury experience, head 2 hours northeast of Dubai to Oman’s Musandam Peninsula. This portion of Oman is completely separated from the rest of the country by the United Arab Emirates. Even though Dubai is the closest major city, the remote and mountainous landscape of Musandam yields a sharp contrast to the glitzy desert metropolis. Here, set amid the rugged and barren Omani terrain, you will find one of the most stunning luxury resorts in the world, Six Senses Zighy Bay.

We’re not joking around when we say this resort could be right out of a James Bond movie. Situated on a beautiful beachfront and surrounded by jagged mountains on all sides, there are three ways guests can choose to arrive on property: You can drive down the mountain road, whiz in by speed boat, or paraglide off the side of the mountain and float down to resort below.

The ridiculousness doesn’t stop there though. The Six Senses resort itself is as beautiful as its surroundings. Private cobblestone villas pepper the white sand beach, each with their own private plunge pool. Sandy pathways lined with palm trees weave throughout the property, leading to two different resort pools, a spa, an activities area and multiple amazing restaurants. Combining both luxury and adventure in one out-of-this-world location, we’ll take you on a photo journey through Six Sense Zighy Bay:

Float away the afternoon in the saltwater pool, staring up at the Musandam mountains all around. Nearby, you can play badminton, bocce ball or archery in the activities area.

The sharp coastline around Zighy Bay will take your breath away. Here, the Musandam mountains meets the turquoise water of the Gulf of Oman in the most dramatic fashion.

A row of wooden gates fence in the backyards of the private waterfront villas, swinging open to access the beach. Natural materials like stone and wood can be found throughout most of the resort architecture.

You’ll notice more goats than people tend to traverse the rocky Musandam terrain, as you pull away from the hotel and head out on the 2 hour drive back to Dubai.
