For those that don’t already have the Maldives at the top of their radars, it’s a cluster of 1,110 tiny pieces of paradise just southwest of the tip of India. Its shallow waters and white sands make for some of the most stunning beaches in the entire world. This place is pretty much a real life postcard. Everywhere you look in the Maldives is another scene worthy of a photo.

As beautiful as the islands are from ashore, the Maldives is probably even more famous for what lies beneath its surface. Many of the top dives sites in the world can be found in the waters around these tiny little drops of sand. Some scientists believe the islands were once coral reefs themselves, now surrounded by corals and sea life. On a dive in the Maldives, you can regularly see sharks, manta rays, turtles and parts of the year, whale sharks.

At the end of the day in the Maldives, the sun waves a colorful goodbye as it descends into the calm blue waters. In the evening you can retire to a unique style of accommodation that has almost become synonymous with the Maldives—the over-the-water bungalow. At many resorts, visitors walk a long pier stretching from the island out toward little bungalows at which to spend the night. As amazing as they are to sleep in, they make for some pretty epic pictures as well.

Have you started packing yet? Happy planning and don’t say we didn’t warn you that these photos of the Maldives may result in some serious wanderlust.
