Peanut snacks have all but disappeared from air travel. And legroom? Pretty much gone. But the very airplanes that carry us across the country and all over the globe have undergone incredible changes, too, fueled by impressive advancements in technology and design.

How have airplanes evolved since the halcyon days of air travel?

Check out the infographic below for some fun facts.

Evolution-of-Airplanes and aviation infographic

1936: The Douglas DC-3 flew the skies stretching more than 64 feet, holding 14 sleeper and 28 daytime passengers, and revolutionized the airline industry by making passenger flights profitable.

1988: The size of the Boeing 737-400 (which is still in use today) quickly became the most popular of the 737 series, holding 147 passengers and traveling at 544 miles per hour.

2009: The Boeing 787-8, perhaps better known as the Dreamliner, is designed to fly long distances. Modern versions offer some of the swankiest first-class seating available anywhere.

2010: The Boeing 747-8 is able to transport a massive amount of passengers and cargo, allowing for 467 passengers!

2014: The Airbus A320neo became the most modern aircraft design available anywhere. Holding 189 passengers, it’s got spacious seating and lots of overhead storage room.
