1. Chicago: The Peninsula Suite at the Peninsula
If you’re wondering if Chicago is your kind of town, a stay at this ultra-spacious luxury lodging may sway your opinion. At more than 3,600 square feet it’s easily larger than most people’s homes and sits atop the 18th floor overlooking Michigan Avenue in the beating heart of the Magnificent Mile. Amenities include a 2,000 square foot wrap around terrace featuring an outdoor whirlpool tub, a marble bathroom with double vanities and soaking tub, a dining room with seating for ten and living room with gas fireplace and baby grand piano. Is this for real?

2. Kauai: The Royal Suite at the St. Regis Princeville
You could throw down an air mattress on the floor of a cave in Kauai and call it a suite and we’d be happy so long as it had views of the island’s lush green mountainsides, gushing waterfalls and azure blue waters, but the Royal Suite at the St. Regis is no slouch. Say aloha to this 2,400-square foot private retreat featuring a grand living salon, formal dining room, fully equipped kitchen with butler entrance, entertainment room, guest powder room and master bedroom suite with spa including a marble whirlpool bath tub and walk-in shower for two.

3. Palm Springs: Gene Autry Residence at the Parker
Whereas luxury is often formal, opulent and occasionally discreet, rarely is it whimsical. Enter the Parker—a 13-acre desert oasis designed in old Hollywood glamour but accented with big splashes of bold color and mid-century flamboyance thanks to madcap designer and sculptor Jonathan Adler—and whose top suite is a two-bedroom, two-bath residence featuring a private, enclosed patio, large living and dining room and terrace. And in case you’re wondering about the name, the answer is yes, singing cowboy Gene Autry once resided in this suite.

4. Las Vegas: The Villas at the Bellagio
The thing we love about Vegas is that you’re theoretically never more than one good bet away from being able to afford the city’s most luxurious lodging options and that means a stay at one of the Villas at mid-Strip winner the Bellagio. In a city where size matters, the largest of these estates clocks in at a whopping 8,000 square feet and features three bedrooms, seven bathrooms, workout facilities, a massage room, dry sauna, private hair salon, formal dining room, dual fireplace, and private terrace and garden with a pool and whirlpool. Um, heaven.

5. Riviera Maya: Ocean View Two Level Villa at the Viceroy
Imagine paradise cranked up to megawatt levels. Not only is the Viceroy an award-winning, oceanfront resort just a stone’s throw from Playa del Carmen, but its multi-story villas up the ante on luxury by offering a thatched roof lodging complete with butler service, a heated private plunge pool with a secluded deck and outdoor showers, a dressing area with his and her closets and an open-air master bedroom featuring a king-sized bed with 600-thread count bedding that leads to a a private upstairs balcony with ocean views. We want to go there right this minute.

8. San Francisco: The California and Penthouse suites at the Fairmont
In a city full of hills, Nob Hill might still be the one most synonymous with old world glamour and exclusivity and perched atop its peak is this 18-story tower overlooking the entire city and featuring two suites which can be reserved to create a three-bedroom private floor all to one’s self. Features of the California Suite at the San Francisco Fairmont include a king-sized sleigh bed, a separate parlor and dining room with views of the Golden Gate Bridge and jacuzzi tubs with separate shower cabins. The Penthouse, meanwhile, boasts similar features and expansive city views.

If you’ve got $30,000 to burn per night, we’ve got the suite for you. The Setai Hotel is itself an opulent charmer with its elegant Asian accents, architectonic palm tree-studded lobby and private beach, but when you throw in a 10,000-square foot penthouse occupying the entire 40th floor and featuring four master bedrooms, a private, rooftop terrace with an infinity pool and panoramic views, four and a half bathrooms with two large jacuzzi tubs and a steam shower and a music foyer with a Steinway piano, all the other SoBe competition withers by comparison.

7. New York City: Ty Warner Penthouse at the Four Seasons
This might be the sweetest suite ever although with a price tag of $50,000 nightly it’s a bit out of reach for most. This penthouse paradise looms 700 feet above Manhattan offering cathedral ceilings, a library with a grand piano flanked by the Chrysler and Empire State buildings, a telescope, a cut glass chandelier with hundreds of fiber optics, a canopy bed surrounded by 22 carat gold fabric, an infinity tub and rain shower and 360 views from its four glass balconies plus 24-hour butler and chauffeur service. Can anyone loan us some money, please?

9. Toronto: The Suite at the Drake Hotel
At a mere 365 square feet it might be tempting to wonder why this diminutive suite merits inclusion on a list that otherwise aims for over the top. Simply put, the Drake Hotel is the crown jewel of cool in Queen Street West—a neighborhood that is at the epicenter of design, creativity and urban chic. Comprised of a series of funky “crash pads” which provide a backdrop to a lively hotel scene that includes house parties, musical happenings and fantastic eats, the Drake’s midcentury-inspired suite offers the most elbow room and luxury of all its enviable living spaces.
