The Singapore Sling turns 100 this year, and nothing makes people want to celebrate a landmark birthday more than a delicious cocktail. Created by a maverick bartender working in the Long Bar at the beautiful Raffles Hotel in 1915, this alcoholic masterpiece consisted of gin, Heering cherry liqueur, Cointreau, Bénédictine, grenadine, pineapple and lime juice with a dash of Angostura bitters.

This famous drink has become more than the sum of its parts, and in the Singapore Sling’s 100th anniversary year, here are the contenders for the best places in the Lion City to swing back an authentic Singapore Sling:

Lantern
Romance is the name of Lantern’s game, and this is the place to come if you want to cozy up to your special someone. With soft, candlelit paper lanterns illuminating the rooftop deck of the Fullerton Bay Hotel, couples can sequester themselves in a corner table and enjoy this oasis in the middle of the city. They have four different takes on the sling: all sweet, all delicious.

Osteria Mozza
A new location for an old sling, the Osteria Mozza is a restaurant that sits on Marina Bay, right next to the Gardens by the Bay. Serving up a less sweet version of the classic, Osteria Mozza forgoes the pineapple juice for a drink with more bite. So if you’re more of a Don Draper than a Carrie Bradshaw, this is the bar for you.

Orgo
Adding a little pomegranate juice to their mix, the Orgo Bar & Restaurant at the Esplanade hits our list because we love pomegranates…and we love happy hours. Orgo’s daily happy hour is from 5pm to 8pm and for a bargain price you can try every variation of the sling on the menu. Enjoy the views of the CBD and Marina Bay from this stylish rooftop bar.

Post Bar
Not to be confused with the Fullerton Bay Hotel, the Post Bar at Fullerton Hotel is a snazzy bar with eight dazzlingly different Singapore Slings. If you like an adventure, try their lycheeand vanilla slings, or if you want to splash a little cash, order the gold version, served with gold flakes and spicy cinnamon.

Loof
Sitting atop the Odeon Tower and popular with the expat and young Singaporean crowd, Loof is where you want to go if you like a laid back and welcoming vibe. Comfortable couches and lush greenery abound in this sanctuary up high. You can see the Raffles Hotel opposite, and the soaring skyline of the city lights up at night while you test out Loof’s translation of the Singapore Sling.

1-Altitude
Feel your stomach drop as you take in the views from 1-Altitude, the highest rooftop bar on the list, by quite a long way. 1-Altitude gets its name from the 282 meters it rises above sea level, and its 360° uninterrupted vista of the Singaporean scrapers. When your stomach is back to normal, order a mixed platter tray properly align it so you can throw back a few more slings in this amazing setting.

Long Bar
Of course, no Singapore Sling venue list would be complete without ending at the original progenitor of the drink. Revel in the colonial décor of the beautiful dark-wood Long Bar at Raffles Hotel and embrace a little Old World Singapore while sipping on this classic cocktail. Maybe let the current bartenders whip you up something different. You never know, you might just witness the birth of a new cocktail classic.
