Before flying: exercise, use lavender to relax and drink green tea.

In-flight: walk around, stand, stretch, bring sleep aids (a blindfold, neck rest, ear plugs), change your watch to the time zone of your destination, drink water, drink more water.

Once you’ve landed: avoid alcohol and caffeine 3-4 hours before bed, use melatonin and eat cherries at night.

Some facts about jet lag:

  • Flying westward causes less jet lag than flying eastward
  • Sleeping pills can do more harm than good
  • The time it takes for the body to adjust is proportional to the number of time zones passed
  • Signs of jet lag are fatigue, irritability, loss of concentration and loss of appetite
