So your dad likes to tinker with things? Golf Digest calls it the hardest golf course in the United States, CNN ranks it the toughest on earth. You may know it from the film The Legend of Bagger Vance. But what everyone seems to agree upon is that the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina is also among the most beautiful. It literally hugs the Atlantic ocean which makes for a breathtaking day on the green and also a challenging one due to those gusty breezes. We love the course because of its proximity to the city of Charleston and all its irresistible Southern charms. Bring mom along for this one.

History Buff Dad
As a kid your father dragged you to Boston to walk the Freedom Trail, flew the entire brood to San Antonio to tour the Alamo and still tears up at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington DC. If that’s the case, may we suggest New York City for a bit of American history? We know its outranked by nearby Philly, but consider that the Statue of Liberty perfectly encapsulates the immigrant experience and is once again open after being closed in 2011, 2012 and 2103 due to renovations, Hurricane Sandy and the government shutdown respectively. Cap off a perfectly moving afternoon by touring the sobering National September 11 Memorial and Museum.

Foodie Dad
If you’re dad is the kind of guy who knows exactly which Pinot Noir to pair with his Chilean sea bass, then you need to get this man a wine country vacation to Sonoma County or Napa Valley. Try this: Rent a convertible and motor up to rustic and beautiful V. Sattui in Napa—a family owned and operated winery since 1885. Their very own Brooks Painter was named 2015 Winemaker of the Year and their wines are not for sale in grocery stores, wine shops or restaurants. Grab a couple bottles of award-winning reds and follow the Russian River out to Goat Rock Beach for an incredible seaside picnic.

Thrill-seeker Dad
Your dad is the kind of guy who would’ve tamed the Wild West had he not instead settled on becoming an accountant and father of four, right? There’s still plenty of ways he can unleash his inner wild manand while our idea for dad may not have him riding off into the sunset it does have him driving around a track in a pretty bitchin’ set of wheels. At the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Sin City, buy dad his own simulated race car driving experience in an actual Ferrari GT or other sports car. Ten laps start around the track starts at $389 which may not sound like much—although we have a feeling mom will insist its plenty.

Fisherman Dad
So dad likes to wake at the crack of dawn, put his rods and reels in order and hit the open water in hopes of pulling some lip, does he? We’ve got just the vacation for him. You know that giant body of water outside of Detroit? No, we’re not talking about either Lakes Erie or Huron, but rather Lake St. Clair which sits just east of the city between the U.S. and Canadian border. It’s known as being a haven for muskie, walleye, crappie, perch and smallmouth bass which is impressive considering the lake has an average depth of just 11 feet. Best of all, you’re just a stone’s throw from the many charms and attractions of Motor City, a cool place (despite what you may have heard).
