Mothers will never tire of flowers, chocolates, and hand-drawn cards from the kiddos on Mother’s Day. But deep inside every mom lies a yearning for sun, sand, and palm trees. So if you want to treat mom to an experience that doesn’t wilt, guilt, or hang on the fridge until next year, check out these 7 Mother’s Day getaway ideas for a beach getaway that she’ll cherish forever.

Hotel del Coronado

Hotel del Coronado, Coronado, CA

WEST COAST

, California
For the mom who dreams of an island escape, but is a city girl at heart, Coronado is just “the crown” for her. Here Mom can do all her city heart desires –art galleries, micro-breweries, boutique shopping or an evening at the theatre. But chances are she’ll be content sipping mimosas poolside at the Hotel Del Coronado, where she can kick off her sandals and walk the warm sandy beach between chapters of her favorite book. Downside: The sand can get kinda hot before you hit the water.

La Jolla, California
For the sporty yet classy mom, there’s the “jewell” of La Jolla, with gorgeous palm-studded coastline, a gazillion Mother’s Day brunch options, and really cool ocean activities like kayaking and snorkeling. Book her a private surf lesson as a special treat. Downside: Getting that new surfboard she just had to have (the one that matches her pedicure), back home.

Orange County, California
For a classic Mother’s Day in true So Cal style, head to Orange County where Ritz Carlton, Montage and Casa Laguna won’t disappoint. Downside: She’ll need time to decide which dress and heels go best with the restaurant décor, and to lay out her perfectly coordinated “oh, I just casually threw this in the suitcase” beach outfit.

Kiawah Island

Kiawah Island

EAST COAST

Kiawah Island, South Carolina
For the “golf” mom, Kiawah Island is likely already a dream of hers. Located off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina, Kiawah is home to a variety of golf courses, restaurants and resorts. The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island is a favorite, where southern charm meets ocean view luxury. Downside: You weren’t expecting her to decide to invest in real estate on the island.

Florida
You pretty much can’t go wrong securing palm trees for mom anywhere on the Florida coast. On the east side, check out the Pelican Grand Resort in Fort Lauderdale. On the west side, try Anna Maria Island, where she can rent a bike or go shelling to her heart’s content. Downside: Will she favor the sunrise or the sunset in Florida? She’ll have to try both.

Caribbean
Just pick an island: Aruba, St. Thomas, Jamaica, just pick one and go. What could there possibly be for any mom to complain about? It’s all about her. You’re welcome. Downside: Deciding which island YOU secretly most want to go to.

Hawaii
See Caribbean. Downside: She’ll insist on bringing that surfboard you got her in La Jolla last Mother’s Day.
