Anglophiles, this might be a match made in heaven. The Hotel Gotham, located at the top of Manchester’s haute King Street in a former bank building, has wowed the local scene since opening earlier this month, with its clever designs and playful winks to British history. Here a little 1930s-era glamor and post-punk decadence are pitch-perfect. Let’s take a look inside.

The lowdown:

– 60 individually designed guest rooms, including fiveinner-sanctum suites named after Manchester icons

– Set inside a former bank, which hit national news in 2010 when safe deposit boxes filled with jewelry, gold and master recordings from post-punk music legends Joy Division & New Order were allegedly discovered on site

– Complimentary access to Club Brass, a VIP-only rooftop lounge

– Dog friendly

Plus: Take a look at these 5 unforgettable, mid-century modern hotels.

3 don’t-miss features:

– The hotel has a handful of cheeky services, including a bookable martini trolley and hangover kit.- Honey Restaurant, a hub for British classics, like Lamb Hotpot, Cheshire Ham and Manchester Tart.

– For craft cocktails and panoramic views of the city, head to the rooftop terrace on the top floor.

The look:
From the uniformed bellboys to the Batman-inspired signage, Hotel Gotham is tight on design throughout its seven stories. The rooms are dressed in bold geometric patterns with a pops of color and nods to a bygone era: “gold” bar fixtures, crystal drinking goblets, “swag bag” style laundry bags, and vintage trunks doubling as coffee tables.

Room to book:
An inner-sanctum suite. Each suite faces the hotel’s interior, meaning there’s no natural light. The look’s seductive—think leather walls, velvet, suede and faux fur. A giant screen (a.k.a. “wonderwall”) plays a black-and-white video starring local actors and cityscapes in the spirit of 1930s Manhattan.

In the neighborhood:
The King Street location is within striking distance of high-end retail (Hermes, Vivienne Westwood), pubs, eateries and coffee shops. Trendy Spinningfields—a local dining, shopping and residential development—is a quick walk away, and features outdoor films during the summer months.
