How did a barren patch of Nevada desert magically transform into the glitzy, glammy stomping ground of gamblers, dancers and hordes of Wayne Newton fans? It took a bit of innovation, lotsof electricity and loads of mob money. The Las Vegas Mob Museum pays tribute to that history and, this December, the museum’s Repeal Day Party pays tribute to what proved to be a pivotal day in history for gangsters and party people alike—the end of Prohibition.

The museum’s Repeal Day Party kicks off at 7pm on December 5 with a toast by Las Vegas‘ mayor. Revelers are then encouraged to party like it’s 1933, the year Prohibition was repealed, with casino table games, craft cocktails from some of the city’s top mixologists and a Roaring 20s Costume Contest. Another event highlight is the Second Annual Boss of the Bars Cocktail Competition, open to all downtown bars. Contestants will vie to create the best Prohibition-era-inspired cocktails, with the winning bar taking home a custom-designed Repeal Day Cup. Joy Robertson, host and producer on the FoodChannel.com, is among the judges.

For those who can’t make it to Vegas, the action extends to Instagram. Follow @TheMobMuseum for a chance to win a trip with the #RepealDayTMM Instagram Contest Giveaway. Contestants should post either a selfie with a favorite cocktail or a creative picture of a favorite cocktail at a favorite bar; use the hashtag #RepealDayTMM and be sure to tag the image @TheMobMuseum. The winner will receive two Delta Airlines flight vouchers courtesy of Orbitz, a two-night stay in a plush suite at the historic Golden Gate Hotel & Casino and a round of classic cocktails at Bar Prohibition. Additional rules and details are available here.

For those who’d like to stay close the revelry, Orbitz offers Las Vegas hotel deals at downtown properties such as the Golden Nugget, the Downtown Grand, The D Casino & Hotel and The Plaza Hotel, among others.

Tickets for the event, which runs from 7 p.m. to midnight, are $40; VIP Party tickets are $60 and also include early entry at 6 p.m., a commemorative Repeal Day flask, two free drink tickets, speakeasy atmosphere and 1920s dance lessons. For more information and to make reservations for The Mob Museum’s Repeal Day events, visit the The Mob Museum’s web site or call (702) 229-2734. Proceeds benefit educational programming at The Mob Museum.
