Regal Princess

If you sail the Caribbean on the Regal Princess in the coming months, you could be in for an anniversary treat. Beginning in November, as Princess Cruises celebrates its 50th anniversary, the fleet will stock the Regal Princess with a brand new custom brew, a West Coast IPA called Seawitch. Additionally, the Regal Princess will host a November 5 ceremony featuring cruising’s greatest pop culture icons, the original cast of The Love Boat TV series.

As for the custom brew, “We know our guests love distinct experiences and authentic flavors so we’re excited to debut a new craft beer series with this special 50th anniversary blend aboard our newest ship,” said Jonathan Wilson, Princess Cruises vice president of food and beverage services. “The Seawitch West Coast IPA not only commemorates our milestone anniversary, but is also meant to inspire our guests to celebrate their sea journeys with Princess.”

Seawitch, named after Princess’ iconic logo, will be sold exclusively on the Regal Princess for a season of Caribbean trips, before it becomes available fleetwide in 2015.

This new craft beer is expected to pair well with Princess’ highly acclaimed comedy shows. Princess recently earned a spot on USA Today’s list of the top cruise lines for comedy, thanks largely to performances from Carlos Oscar, who has been featured on HBO and Comedy Central. USA Today also praised Princess for having plenty of variety, from impersonators to more edgy humor during late-night shows.

In addition to debuting its commemorative IPA, Princess will have a ceremony for the Regal Princess on November 5, during which the original cast of The Love Boat TV series will be named its godparents. In 1977, producer Douglas S. Cramer shot the pilot aboard the Sun Princess. Over the course of the show’s 10 seasons, several different Princess ships were used as the set for a number of The Love Boat episodes.
